Alright, I was exactly 1 month away from the end of my probation period and I got caught for dashing the red light. I committed the offense early in the afternoon and it was totally accidental.
This was what happened, I was traveling at a constant speed and when I was approaching near the traffic lights, the lights turned yellow. In my head, there were 2 solutions, I either jam my brakes and stop over the white line, or I continue moving on. I chose to move on and guess what? *FLASH* goes the bloody camera.
I'm left with 1 point before my license gets revoked, so I won't be driving the whole of next year as a precaution.
Can any experienced drivers provide tips on how I can accurately predict the light changes?
don't anticipate..
whenever you approach a junction, always slow down..
*nitpicking*
The correct english term is 'run a amber light' or 'run a red light'.

There we go!
Back on topic. That is one my bad habits, whenever I assume that I am at a safe distance from the lights (provided it doesn't go red), I will always dash through. I will change that habit once I drive again, probably next year or so.
Apart from anticipating, do you actually look out for cameras?
usually when a traffic junction has red light cameras, there will be a sign to warn motorists in advance iirc..
hmm, i dont remember seeing any at that point of time, but i'll look out for it in future. I cannot afford to commit the same offense twice! $200 bucks is alot of money for my age!
you should have just stepped on ur brakes and exceed the white line...you'd have been fine. ![]()
last month i beat a red light and no flash so i assumed the detector didnt detect my car or the camera is fake LOL
its been a month and no letter came

Yeah, I would have done that, but if there were cars behind me, i will cause inconvenience to them or worst, cause a pile up.

Guess i was just unlucky haha!
cross junction?
check the pedestrian crossing along your path red man already not. how long has it been green since you are approaching from a distance. any more traffic that has to be cleared?
when near a traffic light, you should be either accelerating (too near amber light to stop) or deccelerating (further and anticipating amber light), never travel at high constant velocity (not here not there)
if it happens all too often, it isnt accidental.
me say obigood if ur licence gets revoked.
true what Hello Kitty said.
one year on and you don't know what to do when approaching a traffic junction and need to come online forum ask what to do.......

u sure u have checked ur mirror within those split seconds? if u have, then well done.
Pay the fine, have ur points docked rather than cause a pile up if i were in your shoes.
well, true about the 1 year thing. But problem is, passing my license for 1 year, does not mean i drove the car for a solid year.
Throughout that 1 year, i have less than 3 days of driving experience.
Going at werid constant speeds makes it very hard for you to decide to brake or to accelerate. If you go slow, you can always have enough time to spot the amber light and then brake in time. If you go fast enough, you can beat the amber light.
It's all about experience my friend. Just take it that you are unlucky lah...
But every mistake will firmly build on to your driving experience. Trust me.
Check the pedestrian light also. If it's blinking when you approach the traffic light, you can safely accelerate. If you see that it's a red man for pedestrian while green for vehicles, it means that it's gonna change any moment.

is toopid ur middle name owat.
it's not abt the number of time.
it's abt whthr anot u've learnt ur lesson.
alamak.
why u so gan chiong? wait and see if got letter or not lah.maybe you will not be charged mah.LOL.
furthermore, if you are travelling at high speed and cant brake in time, YOU ARE ALLOWED to proceed. however, given other circumstances such as enough time to slow down etc, and yet you decide to chiong across, that is when you have commited an offence.haix...must go dig up your Basic theory/ final theory and read again lah.
but if you're still damn scared. everytime when you approach traffic light,do the correct procedures.
1) upon seeing traffic light, slow down by releasing accelerator
2) when the 'coast is clear', start to accelerate again
say when you're approaching traffic light and it turns amber(maybe about 10-15m away), you'll have enough time to slow and and stop.
Most important is to learn from mistakes.
There's no need to be perfect.
If not, u have only yourself to blame.
Always drive carefully.. If you dont slow down when there is a traffic light ahead of you, you might even cause accident that make other pesdestrain lose their life. For example, when your car is 10 car space from the traffic light then you think its safe to dash across but when you are 3 car space, the light turns yellow and you are unable to stop. At the same time the pedestrain run across the road when he saw the yellow light.. You just happen to knock down the pedestrain as you cant stop in time and you cant react in time..
Road accident happens every now and then.. Straight in 4 days time, 3 elderly died in car accidents.. BEWARE!!! Drive carefully! Think twice before you drive fast.. You wont know when accident will happen..
when coming to a junction, lift the foot off the accelerator or at least maintain a speed you can brake when the light changes.....beating the red light can have very bad consequences...
