SINGAPORE - A new road system in the Marina Bay area will be completed soon to serve the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort and the Marina Bay Financial Centre this year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Thursday.
The road network will present another option for motorists to enter the Central Business District (CBD) - with a cost. Four new ERP gantries will be put up to deal with the expansion of the CBD area.
Where are the ERP gantries?
The first ERP gantry will be located along Bayfront Avenue leading towards Temasek Boulevard. Another gantry on the other side of Bayfront Avenue will also be erected.
The third and fourth gantries will be located at Marina Way and Marina Station Road leading into Central Boulevard.
The existing gantry along Central Boulevard will then be removed.
While the first gantry will be up by end of April, the other three will be completed some time in the third quarter.
Expanded CBD, so more gantries
LTA chief executive Yam Ah Mee said without the gantries, motorists will use the new roads there to bypass congestion-priced roads in the city centre, The Straits Time reported.
The gantries will close off the Bugis-Marina Centre ERP cordon and the Shenton Way-Chinatown cordon.
A new vehicular bridge bridge across Marina Bay and the new Bayfront Avenue, to connect Temasek Avenue to Central Boulevard and Marina Boulevard will be opened.
Actual dates of operation for the new ERP gantries will be announced closer to the completion of the Marina Bridge and the new road network respectively. These gantries will follow the prevailing CBD rates and operating hours.
