help!!
thinking of buying car...for continental cars, which has least problems, relatively easier to buy spare parts and has better re-sale value...bmw, mercedes, saab, peugeot, volvo, jaguar?? -

Actually the brand of the cars you list down, I believe the spare parts are not hard to get.
But when you consider buying a car (is it 1st hand?), the budget is important.
Maybe you can tell us your budget before I can give you slightly more advise. -
My budget is $110-150K...but probably the mid point like $125k ideal...ie painful but can still tahan...
first time buyer so really clueless...thought buy new car safer since nowadays got at least 2-3 year guarantee... -

confirm or not? my dad always complain bout BMW no good cos only 1 service agent in S'pore... den maintaince very ex$$$. But den... he also wont buy BMW one lah.. hahaha! 2) Ford Mondeo 2.0 (Big and spacios)
3) Audi A3 1.6 (sporty and prestige)
120-135k
1) VW Bora 1.6 (Elegant for a 1600cc car)
2) Volvo S40 1.8 (Sporty and elegant)
3) Rover 75 1.8 (Big and elegant)
4) Alfa 156 2.0 (Big and elegant)
135-150k
1) BMW 318 (classy, beauty and prestige) -- but think higher then 150k but lower then 160k
2) VW Pasat 1.8 Turbo (elegant)
3) Audi A3 1.8 (prestige)
Other Jap car you can consider :-
1) Honda Accord (New, fierce and beautiful)
2) Mazda 6 (Sporty and beautiful)
3) Lexus IS 200 (Sporty and beautiful) -
My friend's Dad got a BMW 520 for 195k, after about 2 years, the price drop for about 30k - 50k.

Mercedes A class? I dunno man that looks like a overly downsized version of the ML320. I would either go for the new Honda Accord Euro R version (Cheap for the power and maintenance) or parallel import the Toyota version of the IS 200. I think they call it an Altezza. . When I was looking for an upgrade to replace my Sunny 1.6 someone offered me an Altezza for $110k. It's not as soundproofed as the IS 200 nor as luxurious or glam, but the power output is a hell of lot higher. And being a Toyota, it's always cheaper to service than any Lexus.. However these mirror images are really small for a 2 liter car though. I guess you need to figure if you really need such a good car for your first one...

any thoughts on Saab 9-3? now priced betw $125-130K. depreciation less than $11K. Heard servicing about $250-300.
2yr warranty period. just wondering on parts avail...and whether outside mechanics can work on the car.
Also considering a slightly used BMW-around 1yr old so 1st owner already took some hit for depreciation and still got 2 yr warranty -

Ya man that's the first time I've seen a new BMW priced under $100k.
Are you sure your prices are even near smelling the current market ones? I don't think a Kompressor engine would warrant a price of 103k. Even a Cefiro is more than that! And that NSX...105? Better check your sources again dude...wherever they come from. Even if they were used 2003 models...we're at the beginning 2nd quarter of 2003 and this would mean that the BMW depreciated from $225k to $98k in 4 months(A fricking depreciation of $127,000 in just 120 days! And that's not even counting the profit you must deduct from the used car dealer's pocket), $150k to $125k for the Jag in 4 months, I don't know how much you pay for an NSX but I'm pretty damned sure it will cost not the quoted $105k even if it's a parallel import, not when a Subaru WRX STi costs $142k. As for the Kompressor, the C200 version cost $169k already I don't think adding another 30 to the 200 will drop the price by sixty-six thousand dollars. No offense meant, but were your prices listed in pounds or US dollars?
Read that you supposedly drive an Evolution 7 true? How much did you pay for it? SG$60k? Could you recommend your dealer to me? -

What would you recommend:
1) a 1-2yr old bmw (with still 1-2 yr warranty)
or
2) New Saab 9-3 (price still cheaper than 2 yr old bmw I think) -

personally do not like Saab....
why not look at other makes?

ok, let me elaborate...
something which is dependable, nice to drive, not too big (so easy to park), safety also important, relatively ok re-sale value.
btw already have 2 cars at home (one continental and the other japanese)...which are driven by other members of my family. want a car just for myself. ideally, something will be happy to drive for at least 4-5 yrs.
have test driven audi A4 (ok), jaguar x-type (nice but expensive), peugeot 307 (only 1.6cc so underpowered with rear passengers), saab (nice to drive, unique, price ok), bmw 3-series (nice to drive and nice image but expensive), toyota rav 4 (nice to drive but not quite classic car and probably will get sick of it)
