There is a common misconception that more expensive the petrol (gas) the better it is for the car. So this may save you all tons of $$$.
Shell in their website have said, pumping more octanes than the car require does not give additional benefits.
http://www.shell.ca/code/motoring/tips/gasoline.html
So if you want to find out... check your instruction manual.
Before I came back to Singapore, my family first started on XO on then to V-power.. (both I think 98 octane with different additives) then i told them it's useless.. told them to switch to Super98.
Then when i came back, I read the instruction manual and found out it can work on Minimum 91 octane. But since not many places sell 91. I just use Fusion (95) now. Now..if i think of it.. save about $2.5 to $3.5 per full tank.
Unless you have a car with a damn refined engine, i guess you all should just pump the minimum octane your engine requires.
BTW, I did an experiment while i was away from singapore. On separate occasions. I tried 87, 89 and 92, 94 Octane (this country dun have anything higher than 94). I tried on a Nissan Altima and a ML500.
My conclusion? The altima which requires a minimum of 87 octane, did not differ in fuel consumption and mileage and high speed performances did not differ.
ML500, requires 92 octane. I did not try 87& 89 at normal speeds as this will damage the engine. But at highway, 89 octane will have a lagging engine performance. But 92 and 94 octane does not affect the fuel mileage.
Nice tips.Btw what is the min octane level for super 98? 98 octane?/Originally posted by Ponders:Guys,
