Hi guys,
I was wondering.How often do you guys top up the engine oil and which brand do you use?
I am checking the engine oil level every 2 weeks and normally top up the engine oil with Shell Helix every 4-6 weeks. -

Actually, I don't think many pple do what you do, I mean as in top up the engine oil after every 4-6 weeks.
Good engine oil suppose to last you 10,000km (Can be slight more, but every mechanic ard will tell you 10,000km).
The reason why don't top uo is becos engine oil will get very 'dirty' and becomes milky after running for a long time. And in order to change the engine oil, its better to drained away all the old oil before puring in new one.
What you are doing defeats the purpose in this sense, as the bottom oil becomes dirtier, you only top up with new one. It's still dirty in one sense, get what I mean?
And, its very troublesome to keep checking. I'll suggest you can check evey 2000-3000km, but don't think they will get dirty so easily. I have hit 7000-8000lm now for my car and I did a check on it last week, still quite clean, and above the minimum standard line, so can still last.
Therefore, I'll advise you to do a full servicing, and leave it alone. Wait till its abt 10,000km before you check again. What I'm saying does not include brand new cars, as they needs servicing more often, until after 10,000km in mileage.
By the way, if you are using a lower grade engine oil, it'll be every 5000km.
And yes, I'm currently using Shell Helix Ultra as well. -

if u need to replace engine oil every few weeks, best to get ur car checked. if u are giving out white smoke etc, probably is piston ring worn etc, if u see oil in engine bay..probably a leak someplace like distributor etc
usually, there is no need to top up except during regular servicing. If u find yourself needing to top up frequently, time for checkup cos its not normal.
