What's the diff with Honda cars that have VTEC engine???
Do they consume more fuel??

diff between DOHC and Vtec is the Vtec uses less power but produces almost the same power for DOHC engines

it'll be faster lor.. but fuel consumption tin if nt wrong is if u always kui e vtec den need 2 use more petrol

they bring out the most in the engine... no other 1.6L NA cars packs more punch than a DOHC VTEC!!!
below 5,600... drives like a normal 1.6 car, petrol consumption not bad... when power is needed, drop gear, drag pass 5,600... VTEC opens! more valves open, cams lifted... power comes... consumes more petrol, more power is delivered...

However, I read that turbo charging the high reving B-series engines with vtec will produce incredible power. I have yet to see one yet, but i read of this guy who swap a B18C5 into his civic and turbo charged it. It was making in excess of 400hp on the dyno.
On the road, that could very well be a sub 12sec. car! amazing! considering its still a FF dont you think?

vtec is a really cool honda invention that makes an awesome sound when you rev it hard and it goes fast for an NA car with a small displacement
and turbo charging a honda is awesome but i tink on some level it makes the engine abit unstable cause those engines are high compression
i've seen a 95 prelude GSR/vit-r turbocharged
it sounds great and it runs very fast, but hell of a noisy car it was
managed to keep up with some other track cars , old ford gts and even a civic typr R and wrx
someday i wanna turbochage mine and see how it feels haha, when i get 10k that is -
Because the stock B series blocks are aluminium, they are not ideal for boosting, thats why its so essential to rebuild the motor with forged pistons and valves, and sleves too.
Have to reduce compression alittle, so cams must change. Since cams and valves are upgraded, stiffer valve springs must also be added.
All this is done for reliability issues only.
Cars like the supra and the '93 eclipse GRX come with stock cast iron engine blocks, so little or nothing needs to be changed before adding a snail to them.
Hondas will be great cars to TC, but they won't be cheap! -

TC Civic on par with REX?
That really depends on how big a turbo the civic has on, and what year the REX is. Even then, its won't be easy for the civic to be on par, just because the REX are AWD and the civics are FF.
From a stop, wont be easy. On the go, also not easy because the REX or STi got so much touque!
I guess if you have the money, you can do a rebuld, but in a huge turbo, change the axials to handle all the power, change clutch so that it won't slip, add an LSD so pickup and conering are improved, and change to close gear ratio and final gear. For insurance, add a 100 shot direct port nitrous setup.
With such a setup, I think you'll be pretty hard to beat on the road even if u dont drive very well. But then again, if you can afford such a setup, why in hell would you want to buy a civic in the first place?!?

EG6 is DOHC Vtec 3doors 1.6L(VTi)
EG5 is SOHC Vtec 3doors 1.6L(ESi)
EG4 is SOHC Vtec 3doors 1.6L without sun roof (LSi)
EG9 is DOHC Vtec 4doors 1.6L(VTi)
EG8 is SOHC Vtec 4doors 1.6L(ESi)

tune da vtec 2 open earlier and if u throw in a SC or TC tune it 2 open concurrently

Can't say I'm all that impressed with the VTis. I've outdragged them off the lights with an '81 twin-carb Mazda 323, and by the time they work their way up to 5600, I'm long gone.
