errrr, not true leh fren. torque is torque, power is power, u cannot compare torque with power, or power with torque. the unit of torque is Nm, the unit of power is Kw.Originally posted by AE86tofu:and in eurpoe they measure power by Torque while jap ppl measure it by BHP....thats y u see theat european cars are very torquey (esp. mercedes) while cars like honda are very revvy but have little torque
but when they do, the results are wild beasts!!!Originally posted by tailslide:the most they do is supercharge, but seldom see them turbo charge their cars.
Ok this one I gotta agree...German cars are more refined...that one is a fact...Torque=acceleration BHP=top speed (correct me if i'm wrong) which is y u find that mercs have more pulling power even though their engine is only 2liters(I'm talking abt the older mercs with the square lights...not the current Supercharged E200s) in terms of torque they are more and they are better engineered which results in better reliablity...those cars can last for 20years man....and yes...NM is for torque..shucks...looks like I'm the only one measuring it in Ft/Lbs anyone knows the conversion rate? and those E200s fare better than a 2.0 accord or a mazda 6 2.0L (I'm talking abt those older mercs again)Originally posted by tailslide:errrr, not true leh fren. torque is torque, power is power, u cannot compare torque with power, or power with torque. the unit of torque is Nm, the unit of power is Kw.
generally, cars with large displacement/ undersquare blocks tend to put out more torque whilst oversquare blocks tends to produce more power, so it comes as no surprise that continental cars produce more torque then jap cars. personally, i think continental cars offers a more refined ride as compared to the raw feeling of a jap mobile. if i got the dough and i m spoilt enough, i'd prolly go buy myself the M3.
in thepower department, i think there are differing schools of thoughts when it comes to producing power. the japanese are more for forced induction whilst the europeans tend to border on pure displacement advantage whilst retaining the NA charateristics. the most they do is supercharge, but seldom see them turbo charge their cars.
dun 4 get renault....they are the pioneers of turboOriginally posted by HENG@:u can turbo a car and gain more torque too!
my airtrek turbo R which is 2l turbo, runs a low boost pressure, hence the power is lower at 240bhp even though it has the same engine as the EVO7. but the max torque of 343Nm comes out at a low 2500rpms, as opposed to the EVO7's max torque of 392Nm coming out at only around 4000rpms.
oh i've just remembered the europeans love to turbo their cars too, esp the scandinavian brands. all Volvos n Saabs have turbos.
