sunny vs lancer ? need help

hi guys , need your help on this one. i think i have decided on the manual, choosing between the sunny and the lancer. I read the specs and the sunny seems to be more powerful? is this really true? i know the lancer looks more sporty, and the sunny seem really like a saloon car...but apparently in terms on performance, the sunny seems to have an edge. Can someone here advise me?

think anything below 70k is fine for a new car. the thing is with less than 70k i can get like leather seats and other stuff for the sunny, but i have to spend in excess of 70k to get those things for the lancer.

New or 2nd hand? For 500 you should be able to cover the seats with leather.
I like the lancer myself in rgds to the steering and gearbox. But it's a personal preference.
Suggest you test drive both and decide. -
New car... the major thing headache is i understand the sunny has bad FC, thats what holding me back. I like everything about the lancer but its significantly more expensive and the specs in terms of horsepower, 0-100 etc... is not as impressive as the sunny. hence the headache.
I thought about getting a manual for the sunny to save FC but it just seems wrong...the sunny is such a saloon and to have a manual ride just seems out of place. I rather enjoy the smooth ride and relax. I like the idea of a manual lancer coz its sporty...really headache...dunno which car and cannot decide on auto or manual.
i think i will be using it alot in the city for travelling short distances going from one place to another. so whats ur advise? -
Yep the lancer does cost much more, I'm not sure what this new model drives like though, I used to have the 00' model and it served pretty well.
Hrmm, for city driving you might want to consider an auto, in most cases driving a manual is okay but getting into parking lot jam esp up the ramp can be a headache.
If this is going to be a car for long term ie 5 -7 yrs you might want to consider that, I got a manual car but now I really wish it was auto heh.
My fren's family has a new 1.6L sunny and from what it seems their not too impressed with it's performance
But foremost consider your budget carefully and test drive both cars to see which one suits you better, cause everyone has different tastes. -
looks like u're stuck btwn looks (Lancer) & performance (Sunny)... well i tink specs dun exactly reflect the actual performance of the car, dere're other factor components of the car which'll influence the actual performance to a certain extent eg. transmission, weight... yea so it's indeed wise to go test-drive n whack the cars hard, n since dey're already quite seasoned by previous different drivers, so maybe it's a way to gauge the true quality & durability of the cars? well even if the specs are right, u can't do much to the sunny's looks, but u can do more to the power of the lancer after buying. i guess i'm biased towards the evo family tree hehez...

Yeah yeah, got my 2nd hand manual car half a year ago, thinking that I LOVED manuals for all the control it gives you. Before I owned a car, driving a manual one was a joy! but the moment you have your own car and drive it everyday, braving car park ramps, traffic jams and wat have you... now i wished i got an auto. my dad owns a sunny supersaloon a/t. Although the specs is slightly better than lancer, I'll still go for the lancer if I'm the one buying. Personal preference here. Like above mentioned, the lancer looks more sporty and you look younger driving in one (not as if I'm old, I'm just 19 lol).

i like the looks for lancer.... but i dunno abt the performance....
and ppl tend to look down on sunny's performance, i hope u all think again....
in singapore, as long as it 1.5-1.6, and not racing against rex or evo.... no problem.... hahhaa (i drives a 01 sunny)
abt MT or AT, MT gives u more control.... but also more discomfort.... auto is abit boring, but u can rest ur left leg.... hahahhaa

Hi, I'm a new member here and I drive a manual gear nissan sunny ex (98 version) for about a year. Just to share my driving experience here. Personally, i think the fuel consumption for sunny is still alright but it all depends on where you drive your car (and what u carry in your car!). Those mileage given in the brochures are just plain suggestions and unless u hear from the horses mouth, you probably wun know the difference.
When I first switched to a nissan sunny about a year back, i thought the car body was darn too heavy and fuel consumption wld be high. BUt after comparing with my friends driving other models of cars, think..hey...not much difference. But my friends were surprised when i told them i need less than $40 ringgit to travel from causeway to Pahang! The car weight...though is heavy compared to my ex-car...was giving me stability (not to sure whether its the Monroe suspension or izzit the car wieght but i think both help) throughout the drive and I maintained my car speed at 140km. On my way back, I stepped on it and was driving 170km from Machap back to Singapore (carrying 5 people including me plus all the luggage).
So do u wan to buy a sunny? just sharing my driving experience.
One thing to know..u are buying a new sunny...so I don't know how the new sunny performs.. hee. -

as for consumption, i think it's decent. i average about 14km/litre... and if you asked me to trade in my car, i'll go for a second nissan, coz it's damn cheap. a 3 yr old model typically sells close to paper value, a price which you can't get for a honda/toyota/mitsu.
personally, this is how i sum it up:
toyota - superb reliability, durability, solid fuel saving BUT boring
honda - solid performance but fragile body
mitsu - good looks, ok fuel consumption, light body
nissan - lousy acceleration, average consumption but very good stability and strong in a collision
mazda - ok performance, stable body, boring interior (except the newest range of mazda 2, 3 and 6) -
tested sunny A/T, feel ok, stable la...

Driven both sunny and lancer before. Lancer is more powerful in picking up. Have to drag sunny along the ECP slope.
