  like example moi fren he everi mth bring hm $1500. so his car eg6 monthly 400+ err.. haben couted petriol, road tax.. insurance n stuffs.. haha.. he still can survive..

  hm, IMO at least $1800 - $2500 is needed to survive 'better' in times to own a car

  Wow, 400 + , then if add petrol say 200, parking 100, Maintenance some more, add up around 800 to 1000. He no buy personal insurance, no need to give parents no need to save liao.

  honestly, my bank balance goes in only 1 direction every since i got my car... downwards...
  
  but then, win some lose some, trade comfort for cold hard cash.

  i think its necessary to do some planning b4 committing to a loss-only investment like a car, to make sure there wil stil be money left for the rainy dae.

  and dun forget to calculate parking fees..... that can kill oso
  Season parking at the building a work is $130 a mth... got to opt for cheaper parking but must cross 2 roads.... so silly right... buy car for convenience, but must first walk 10 mins to get to car....

  i think $1500 is too tough. after deducting petrol and parking, he still have to meet his expenses such as eating, mobile bills and giving money to parents etc.

  I tink it depends on the monthly installment of the car. For mi i tink bring home 1.8k, should be able to own a car with a monthly installment of >$500..... Wat do u all think? I'm thinking of getting a Eg6 or 92/93 Lancer. Any advice? A 2nd hand to start with first...

  It's actually a simple equation:
  Instalment - $500-800, depending on your downpayment, no. of years loan, etc, but i believe most car buyers now pay the least and spread the loan over, say 7 years. This is likely to result in about $600-700 for a normal Jap or Korean car..
  
  Petrol - depends on usage, but typically $100-400
  
  Road tax - about $50-100 a month
  
  Insurance - about $1500-2500 a year
  
  Parking - fixed HDB about $65-90, variable for your other trips
  
  Just take an average of each of the above components, and you are likely to end up with about $1000/month.

  hey, you forgot maintenance.... higher for larger and older cars.
  My Natasha is still under warranty but i still got to pay for the engine oil bla bla bla... labor is free and it comes up to about 50 per maintenance every 3 months....
  
  Imagine if you get a 10year old car... skali needs to change timing belt.....wwwhhhooosssshhhhh!!

  I really wan to salute some guys who can make ends meet with $1500 and a car burden. A car is a depreciating asset and we all know that.....But then, the shiokness of getting a car often beats the aftermath of paying the car installments ( and othe costs) with our blood.........
  
  Sometimes, i just wonder....when will i stop paying with my blood..
  and whenever i think of that...I always convince myself to buy used cars instead of new ones...because new cars..."lugi" more when u wan to sell......

  forget to say.. my tat fren he doin part-time investment for fun.. 1 mth generate spare 1k cash. purposely for his car.. but he always busy keepin track of e stock.. jia liat no time to cheong oso.. everitime mth muz confirm generate 1k lidat.. haix.. he ah super save lah.. go jb top up petrol.. i find it dangerous there..
