don't rev your engine too high.. -
Agreed. Should not rev up the engine too high.
But would suggest removing the plastic cover to avoid any unnecessary scratches from "envy cum jealous scratch - masters".

What to use? I've heard people telling me not to use any detergent and no need to wax the car. I hope to keep the car looking nice and new! -
try not to rev your engine above 3,000rpm. follow this ritual for the 1st 1,000km (which is normally the 1st service)
right after the 1st service ....... push your car. take it close to red line if you want
i did this to 2 new cars, and the engines were smooth and powerful till now ....... read this tip from a car magazine. can anyone verify whether what i do is indeed a workable thing?
the magazine's explanation was that it had something to do with the engines walls being rough when new. and then after the rough edges have worn off ...... then, only rev it higher. else, unnecessary wear and tear. and then, after the 1st service ...... the oil is clean, so rev it high to smoothen out the walls ........ something like that

Agree on keeping it below 3000rpm for the first 1000km. Have heard and read this enu to be convinced.
For my first set of new wheels after the second servicing, yuh I did push it pretty hard every once in 2-3 weeks. Not to the red-line though, but near. Thereafter I find the drive smoother and the engine a tiny bit more responsive. Petrol efficiency seemed a little improved but not much abt 5% thereabout.
But this can be done only if the car is in good condition.
Heard now you can buy new-car smell over some counters.
Unsuitable detergent can take away the protective coat on new cars. -
HAHAHAHA... my fren yesterday got new civic 1.7 one then he hao lian to me... u know how he show off? he revved all the way to the limiter leh... siao one... btw i dunno y honda now so power conservative... the limiter they put right at the start of the redline, which is 6800rpm. last time my civic esi redline 7200 still can go higher... haha that time i rev my esi got one riced up eg6 next to me, he was looking at me buay song one... damn funny his face...

The Civic Vti-S 1.7 will be good enough for me for the moment, haha..........thinking of buying it as well but then find no point changing a civic to a civic, as I'm currently driving the 1.5 version.. But he'll kill his car if he con't to drive this way without running in.

i came across one website say u run in that time must rev high one, but that one apply to motorcycles only... dunno real or fake, maybe they wan to see people's cars spoil then happy one... i forgot the url already...
