Do it once, can forgive. Do it twice, close one eye. Do it again, still ok. When you hear strange sounds from your gears, prepare to take out ur wallet.Originally posted by farland:what if i switch from gear 5 to R gear in manual car while crusing on expressway, the gearbox spoil and explode??

sounds like Microsoft Windows!Originally posted by Goodeal:for MOST car...
illegal operation of gear changing will ended up in a auto set-up by the gearbox to neutral and than follow by shutting down of the engine.
hence in order to restart your engine u will need to shift your gear to P or N in order to restart your engine.
your gearbox has a program to save your transmission whenever there is an illegal operation.
some idiot in the states actually tried this on a crappy ol' car. basically, the tires locked, and as a result of the abrupt weight shift, the whole car flipped, literally, resulting in the car being totalled.Originally posted by farland:what if i switch from gear 5 to R gear in manual car while crusing on expressway, the gearbox spoil and explode??

thankfully, this idiot was a stuntman and he had a roll cage. so folks, i'd advice those ppl who lazy to ask other ppl to scrap your car, do it yourself.![]()
No you will not damage the engine if its still on Reverse gear. Most auto cars nowadays will not allow you to turn off the engine unless the gear is engaged in P.Originally posted by Motion_Sickness:helllo ppl i need some help here...would it damage an auto car if i turn off the engine while it is still on Reverse gear? thanks....
of course when u downshift to overtake, u don't let go of the accelerator to let engine braking take over. e-braking occurs when revs come down... so Step On It!Originally posted by bmw_lover:if you are travelling at 80 on expressway, then you wanna over take the car in front of you, should you drop a gear before you do so assuming you are on gear 5? but wont this cause engine braking to slow you down?
