Newbies getting new/used car

  Hi to all.
  i just got my licence afew days ago and was thinkin of gettin a car.
  but i'm not sure whether to get a second or brand new one.
  Now i'm considering Chevrolet Aveo 1.4AT and Toyota Vios 1.5E
  
  my buget is around $500-$600/mth
  my downpayment around $10k~15k
  
  And whether should i take up 7 yrs or 10yrs loan?
  pls advice

  And also if i am a new driver roughly how much is my insurance going to be?

  just got my Matrix GLS Manual. downpay at 8k paying 7years 750 per year. I buy Manual because of the much better fuel consumption (12km/L), when want power got power, when no need power, light footed to save fuel. it is spacious and tall. quite shiok.
  
  I have gone through the process of choosing cars...people say japan car better...some discourages me on the matrix...high fuel consumption....etc etc...it is all subjective opinion. go for the brands honda or toyota if you want to drive it for ten years or more otherwise they are the same. chances are you'll change your car in 5 years time. just go get the car that you like.

  I cannot hep u decide if u should get a new car or 2nd hand...
  
  but i'll advise you not to take 10 year loan unless you down amt is high.
  
  the 10 year loan is new and singapore is seeing record number of cars registered cos many more pple are able to afford it with 10 year loan.
  
  However the full implications are yet to be seen. You will have to fork out high amt of cash say u sell 5 years down the road.

  Not worth it to register yourself... get ur dad or someone with a longer years of experience to register..... it will help you save a few hundred dollars..... you can check with the car agent for ur insurance payment....... Wow one time down $10,000 to $15,000
  of course go for new car...... if u are comfortable with 400- 500 a mth then go for 7yrs... but if not go for 10yrs... you still have to account for other expenses that you may need to pay every mth.... so.... see for urself.....

  thats a bit too expensive.
  but too bad none in my family had licence except me.
  And after one year will my insurance drop alot?

  I would suggest you get a second hand car for gaining your road experiances or rather how other drivers drive on Singapore roads .
  
  I suggested that is because
  
  1) I had seen too many new drivers got into accidents like nobody business ... Even me myself , got into a serious accident during the 1st year P plate period ...
  
  2) Second hand cars are cheaper to maintain (Depending on what car you buying)
  
  As for insurance , it depends alot on what car you buying , your age and the accident rate of that particular car that you are buying .

  Insurance will be quite hefty esp base on your age & the driving experience. Very easily > $2.1k. One option is to register the car with your experience family member. However if you are keen of owning a vehical, you'll need to start from some where.
  
  Whether getting a old or new, individual likes lah. Maybe touch wood (suay) gotten one with lots of trouble 2nd hand. However, new car need to pay slightly more. Your budget, hmm.. looks like only Chevrolet ot Suzuki Ignis will fit in for new car.
  
  Go shopping around, test drive & make a wise choice after much thought. Most important, don't get presurized by those Car Sales Man.
  
  My opinion. No hard rules to follow.
