  In short, horsepower is how much power the engine can develop. The higher, the more power. It is usually addressed as BHP-brake horsepower.
  
  CC denotes a short form of cubic centimetres. It represents the displacement taken up by an engine. The higher the cc, the larger the engine. for example, 1997cc engine might represent an engine displacement of 2.0L.

  more accurately speaking it's, the actual capacity is 1997 cc for example but it's taken as 2.0L just to round off...because 1,2 cc is peanuts to engine performance

  Just to add................
  
  cc is more like the engine capacity.... and Horsepower is the thing that pple are more interested in.... the other being the torque.... there is a believe that the bigger the cc the bigger the hp.... true to an extent but sport series cars can outrun a normal bigger cc car... becos of a higher hp and torque.....

  A larger cc engine might indicate a more powerful engine and thus higher BHP.
  
  For example arh, car A is 1.6l so about 15XXcc and rated 100bhp. Car B is 2.0l so about 19XXcc and rated 150bhp. So from the above its easier to see?
  
  The one with a higher engine capacity thus provides more power and thus better performance. But if you want more cheem than uh, vehicle weight, shape all come into play liao but dun go into that lah.

  whats the difference between horsepower and torque? horsepower is how powerful the engine is, torque is the turning power and how well the car can climb slopes. but isn't that like the same thing?
