For Turbo cars, u cannot off the engine immediately aft u travel at high speed. Aft stopping, need to let the engine run for abt one minute before u off the engine to cool down the engine & turbo. With a Turbo timer, u can take out ur ignition key, lock ur car and go off while the turbo timer does the countdown n switch off the engine for u once the countdown is over.Originally posted by Hairyworm:Wad is a turbo timer?Wad is the function of it?
Mine is Apexi - cost under $200, its small thats why pple usually use it. I got mine from ST powered.Originally posted by Uwei:Can any one help? anyone out here knows? thank u![]()

I set my turbo timer to auto mode and let the timer decide how long it wants instead of the preset one minute.
Evryone agree?
just checked with my dad. when u release the parking brake, the turbo timer will cut off the engine even if the timer hasn't run down yet. so there is a manual override for the turbo timer for times like when u stop at a petrol station to top up.Originally posted by megatron:hi guys n gals
sorri..was jus wondering what happens when u go fill up petrol?
keep the engine running?
tks sharing
p.s jus to share..most conti cars like Porsche, Saab, Audis,,these ang mohs dun believe in Timers, DV,BOV,SQV..etc.so why japs cars stress so mch on these?
That is a safety mechanism, Heng. In case, as technically, your engine is still running, its to prevent someone from disengaging your handbrake and running off with your car. So once, handbrake is "down", the time goes off and so does the engine. Anyway, for petrol stations, you are stopping for a brief period, should be ok. Just keep the timer running when you actually park.Originally posted by HENG@:just checked with my dad. when u release the parking brake, the turbo timer will cut off the engine even if the timer hasn't run down yet. so there is a manual override for the turbo timer for times like when u stop at a petrol station to top up.
Troy437 mentioned about Pivot baby turbo timer and that should be the cheapest you can find here. Although I driving a NA car, I did install one for my car to safeguard my 3 cylinders twincam engine!Originally posted by Uwei:But what i really need is the price of the cheapest turbo timer. Can someone help?
Hmm.. thought the purpose was to prevent the "sudden wind-down", so how does stopping for a brief period be any diff from stopping for a long period - ie parking?Originally posted by dansplace:Anyway, for petrol stations, you are stopping for a brief period, should be ok. I was refering to turbo-charged cars. To prevent carbon particles from damaging your turbo as a result of cooking the stagnant engine oil, it is preferable to rest your TC car before complete shutdown. Chances of cooking your engine oil is lower with the short stop as you will be off and running again. Anyway, I usually take it easy before reaching the petrol kiosk.Originally posted by Bloop...:Hmm.. thought the purpose was to prevent the "sudden wind-down", so how does stopping for a brief period be any diff from stopping for a long period - ie parking?

dun need that. one of my neighbours always open his bonnet after he comes home to cool down the engine.Originally posted by johncooper:heard that there is a type of washer to place on your bonnet to rise your bonnet cover to actually cool your engine down fast right?
I think that should work better then Turbo timer?![]()
