Breaking In A New Car Engine

The manual say to take it easy during the run in period while some sites like http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm says easy breaking in is just a myth and would be better for the engine if you drive it hard.
A very controvosial topic... any comments from fellow drivers here?

Nowadays, alot of things are control by chips sets.... the run in is more for the chips... of cos a bit for the engine too. engine normally dun spoil easily and can last for a prolong duration like for more than ten yrs.... However it is best to do as told by the instruction manual as they are the ones who produced the cars and the ones who design the structure of the car.... they will know wat is best for the car....
alot of things like nv warm up the car, using of low RON fuels, using of cheap engine oil WILL not affect the performance or main components in the short run... however the damage may be there in the long run....
So unless u are thinking of changing cars every 5 yrs or so.... the best is to do wat that is being told..... -

The run in is an old school of thoughts. If u are frighten, then juz follow instruction. For me, i think its not neccessary.

The first 1000km is crucial. The golden rules are:
a. Do not over exert the engine, keep the rpm below 3000.
b. Do not brake suddenly, gradually is the rule here as premature damage will be caused to the braking system and running in of brake disc and brake pad.
c. Must change oil at 1000km.
d. Apply gentleness to everything e.g. turning steering to the max and locking it and still forcing it turn is a no no.
e. Gentle gear change, don't force. If manual, depress clutch fully.
f. When you first collect your car, check the tyre pressure. Have it inflated to the manual guideline. My personal experience was the 2 rear tyres was only 135 psi, way below 220 psi as recommended.
g. Check every fliud, oil more frequently as the hose, pipe may be damaged during the shipment, unloading, testing stage. The mechanics may even miss out on some pre-delivery items.
