we just got the car on fri. waht has my parents' age got to do with the prob?Originally posted by johncooper:heh what car are your parent's?
I think they have not go for the servicing ... i heard that CVT needs to be oiled every certain Km like 20k km otherwise they will give those jerky feelin'![]()
Nothing wrong with it i think, CVTs are meant for smooth acceleration.... I experience this too when I drive my gf's lancer, as long as u press your accelerator pedal gradually u won't experience itOriginally posted by bismarck:heard repeated comments over the weekend tht when my parents drove this car, it seemed to have a slight lag in power before the car delivers a jerk in power...
as in, when they are driving and they step harder on the accelerator to move faster( not a sudden acceleration) u can hear the engine's revs becoming faster than the car jerks forward. sort of 'as if it;s changing gears' that kind of thing....
why like this?
oops. i think i typed wrongly.Originally posted by w2k_83:Nothing wrong with it i think, CVTs are meant for smooth acceleration.... I experience this too when I drive my gf's lancer, as long as u press your accelerator pedal gradually u won't experience it
CVT are like that the dont surge to give the power it like a elegant lady walking like that. so dont expect it to give u power when u wan it. if not wat u can do is to lower the gear to give u faster power.Originally posted by bismarck:oops. i think i typed wrongly.
what i meant was that, when there's a jam then they slow down but when it;s time to accelerate forward, they step on accelerator u can hear the engine's sound getting louder while it's still moving at the same speed after breaking, only after a while then u feel the surge/increase in speed and power.
so it;s like
brakes to 20kmh(for example)
road clears
acc, engine's sound becomes noisy even though speed increase is slow(now abt 25+)
after a while, car picks up and feel sudden acceleration and sound of engine softens.
sort of like a pick up problem....i noticed this when she was test driving the car. even going up a slope, my sis must floor the accelerator then car devs enuf power to climb the slope
i see. i thought CVTs are supposed to be like good in the sense that the gear ratios keep changing, so it shld 'down shift' when the speed is low right ?Originally posted by victorco:CVT are like that the dont surge to give the power it like a elegant lady walking like that. so dont expect it to give u power when u wan it. if not wat u can do is to lower the gear to give u faster power.
All auto gearboxes downshift when the speed is low, CVTs are supposed to be good cos they got small gear ratios hence u can feel nothing when the gears change cos its such a smooth motion compared to conventional auto gearboxes.... For auto cars when the car is slowing down, the ecu will try to engage to the right gear to fit the decreasing speed, when it is doing so and u wanna step on the gas, the ecu got to acknowledge the change and work to adapt to an increasingh speed. Hence, IMHO, this sudden change may cause a timelag, and the timelag varies in different models of carsOriginally posted by bismarck:i see. i thought CVTs are supposed to be like good in the sense that the gear ratios keep changing, so it shld 'down shift' when the speed is low right ?
hmmm
i was thinking since CVT at least shld have a shorter lag than auto trans mah...since it varies gear ratios.Originally posted by w2k_83:All auto gearboxes downshift when the speed is low, CVTs are supposed to be good cos they got small gear ratios hence u can feel nothing when the gears change cos its such a smooth motion compared to conventional auto gearboxes.... the car is like only 5 days old?Originally posted by HENG@:sounds like your CVT worn...
Well CVTs are tuned to handle gradual changes and not sharp changes hence it does not respond as well to a sudden need for power than a conventional auto gearbox.... btw CVT is also an auto trans hahaOriginally posted by bismarck:i was thinking since CVT at least shld have a shorter lag than auto trans mah...since it varies gear ratios.
haiz
it wasnt really a sudden surge of power. so of when the speed was 20kmh he stepped on the acc but it only had a marginal increase in speed then when stepped harder, then the car sort of surged forward...Originally posted by w2k_83:Well CVTs are tuned to handle gradual changes and not sharp changes hence it does not respond as well to a sudden need for power than a conventional auto gearbox.... btw CVT is also an auto trans haha
To u its not a surge but in fact it is when your car is slowing down and then u suddenly want it to speed up (regardless of how hard u step on the gas), causing a fluctuation in your speed... no clutch yes but CVTs work in something like a pulley-system where a change of gear is like moving to a different chain... to the driver u feel almost nothing but if fact something is changingOriginally posted by bismarck:it wasnt really a sudden surge of power. so of when the speed was 20kmh he stepped on the acc but it only had a marginal increase in speed then when stepped harder, then the car sort of surged forward...
CVT, imho, is auto in a way but at least no need to engage clutch or anything what ?(while changing ratios)![]()
oh crap. did u go and check with the distributor? see if this is normal?Originally posted by bismarck:the car is like only 5 days old?
are u trying to say as the car is slowing down, the ratios 'go down' and when they step on the accelerator, it has to sort of 'change from going down to going up' ?Originally posted by w2k_83:To u its not a surge but in fact it is when your car is slowing down and then u suddenly want it to speed up (regardless of how hard u step on the gas), causing a fluctuation in your speed... no clutch yes but CVTs work in something like a pulley-system where a change of gear is like moving to a different chain... to the driver u feel almost nothing but if fact something is changing
hmmm maybe my sis is getting picky...Originally posted by Lancer947:No, you will not feel it unless you're very sensitive. If you try cars like Kia, you will definitely feel it. Well, women are more senitive than man!
There is no OD in my car as well. Why? I dun know.![]()
how did she know it when in to OD drive ?? feeling ?? CVT is smooth till she think it OD Drive mode ??Originally posted by bismarck:another question, I have not felt this before but it was my sis who told me.
she claims that when she needs to drive to a certain speed, cant remember what speed she told me( 60? dunno) the car actually goes into overdrive..
err...OD in an CVT car?
My Lancer got no OD mode.Originally posted by victorco:how did she know it when in to OD drive ?? feeling ?? CVT is smooth till she think it OD Drive mode ??
not all cars got OD mode one. the new cefiro also dont have OD. it got P R N D/3 then 2 1. if i not wrongOriginally posted by Lancer947:My Lancer got no OD mode.WHY IS IT SO?????
