Second Hand or Brand New Car - Which is a better option

I am considering of getting a family car of mid size.
However, I am not sure whether to get a 2nd hand one or brand new one.
Purpose of car is to travel fm point a to point b and going up north.
Been advised that for above it will be more value worth of just getting a 2nd hand car. However, was also told and read fm the forum that 2nd hand car is heavy on maintanence and prone to breakdowns.
My choice of car for brand new is the altis and vios - hv seen and tested both. As for the 2nd hand car, it will be the corona.
Pls let advise.

just to share.... the reason why i opted for new car is bcos i'll be the 1st owner and if i take gd care of my car, the car should b problem free for the next few years.... 2nd hand car maintenance problem will arise if the previous owner never tk gd care of the car and u got to clear up the shit... n interest rate now for toyota is 1.9% whereas 2nd hand car is 2.7%.... work our the calculations and u see which is more worthwhile for u... -

if u wana get 1ns hand car, i think it best if u get those model dat r not too old. for instance, cars dat r 2 or 3 yrs old r not so prob prone. anyway, u can oso test drive the car to feel it & c if dat any noise..
as for 1st hand car, 1st owner normally bear the depreciation.. but i heard nw getting 1st hand car is cheaper den 2nd hand car.. so ezit true? -
I think if one has the spare cash then the wiser option would certainly be to buy a brand new car. But if one is a little bit tight on the budget, a used car would suffice.
Maintenance-wise, many is of the opinion that one would be spending a bit more on the servicing of used cars. However, I don't really agree with that.
Vehicles are like humans, we need regular exercise to keep ourselves healthy. Likewise for cars, they need regular servicing to ensure they function to their optimal level.
Please don't have the misconception that new cars don't need regular servicing because their lifespan would decrease tremendously if not properly maintained.
But in the end, it is your money - so think carefully. -

i went to toyota showrm to cx abt 2 wks ago....tis amt put me off cos i feel it's too much cash upfront and will make my budget very tight....tink over hor....
still, i feel vios is a very good car, u can see quite a lot on the road.... -
