Depreciation is the value lost over the years. To calculate depreciation, take the price you pay for the car minus the scap value (money you get back when you scrap the car after the COE expires). It can be summarised as belowDepreciation = Price - Scap Value
You can from there calculate yearly depreciation by dividing your answer with number of year left for the car. Yearly depreciation allows you to make comparison between cars
As you can see, depreciation value depends very much on the price you paid for the car and scrap value, therefore not necessary new car will depreciate more yearly. Also other factor include the make of the car, current market price, etc
Note: Do not confuse depreciation with loan repayment. They are different set of figures altogether.
What sort of cars do you want to purchase for the first time? 1st hand car? 2nd hand car?? For both, it is adviceable to pay a higher downpayment for the 1st hand car (preferbly more than half) to have a lesser monthly instalment. 2nd hand cars pay lesser downpayment esp if the car is reaching its scrape period..Originally posted by wuming78:i wanna know what first time car buyers should look out for, and what kind of procedures they have to go through, preparations they have to make, and accessories and other useful items they should get for their cars.
