servicing and maintaining your car

just sent my car for its 30000km servicing yesterday after a 9months wait (last servicing at 15000km!!!).... luckily, the people there didn't say got any major problem. tot the servicing will amount to astronomical figures but luckily only about $140+. man, i'll never do it again; wait for so long then service my car, that is...
b4 servincing, my car like want to cough blood everytime i step on its accelerator!!! haha!!!
now can really feel the difference, everything becomes real smooth...
then for the past months looking thru this forum, realised and learnt a lot of stuffs here...
someone mentioned about sending the car for maintenance every month, and that makes me think: necessary ah????
i mean, i tot it is sufficient just to send it for maintenance every 5000km at the workshop???
or am i confusing between "servicing" and "maintenance"???
how about those workshops at certain petrol kiosks? i guess they provide servicing too, right? anyone send thier car there for regular servicing?
and is it necessary to send the car back to its original workshop for servicing???
haha, now i damn scared already, have to treat my car better else sure got problem... -
oh yea, i just got a interior (leather, dashboard, vacuuming, etc...) and exterior (waxing) package about 3 months ago for $300+++ (for 5 services), my way of treating my car nice nice too...

if u r using mineral oil servicing is 5k
semi syn 7k
full syn 10k
but in practise seldome ppl keep to it. usually is more den the recommended by 1-2k so it is always 7k, 9k, 12-15k respectively.
yes proserv at shell petrol station do provide servicing packages too. likewise stamford tyres @ SPC -

I heard from a friend that synthetic oil is more for racers thus we, normal drivers, really only need to use mineral oil and change it as and when the time comes (i.e. 5000km). Is this true?
