Procedures For Launching Cars

Post your known procedures for launching cars here.
For auto cars, is it better to put it into N, rev to desired rpm and then shift into D? or is it better to step on the gas to desired rpm point and use the brakes to hold the car back? -

N then D to rev and launch, can use it when you wanna show off spin the wheels. But use it often better pray hard for your precious gear box.
Hold brake to rev and launch, guess your clutch beri fast will up the lorry.
At the end of the day, wanna play play use a manual car loh. But if tat car is a saloon car, can forget it lah. Waste time nah....

U might find this hard to believe but the fastest I have done was achieved by first letting the car creep in a controlled pace rather than flooring it, not as in immediate pedal to the metal but a steady (fast but not instantenous) shove to the metal......somehow the car is about 0.5 seconds faster to a hundred

that was roughly how i got the 7.8 for the ATR as well, by letting it creep. Actually, I too buay zhai to do what Heng does.
Seriously G-Tech most accurate but not everyone is willing to part with the $$$ for it....me included.
Wat I do is get my petrolhead neighbout to do the honours using a stopwatch while I drive. Take average of three runs on empty stretch of road...dun want to say where.......
Aircon on & off can make a difference, even in powerful cars....so next time if kenna challenge, remember to switch aircon off....for that little extra power. -

To get better time we also need a windsock to tell direction of wind. So if go WITH the wind....should be a little faster

Launch control is 2 prevent wheelspin during takeoff (aka burnout), which wears out tires quickly and adversely affect acceleration of the car...
There are aftermarket Launch Control Systems that do the job 4 you, but they are quite expensive... -
Often an automatic gearbox contains a torque converter, which means that if you spin the engine to in Neutral then shift to Drive there will be quite a delay in transmiting the power. My quickest method is with 'power braking' - with my left foot tight on the brake pedal and right foot on the gas pedal, launching at just over 1700 RPM, using much of the low-down torque of the engine. Really pushes you back into your seat!

question. why is there a torque convertor ? i mean i thought auto just changes the gears for u?

For my manual 1.5 Sunny...
I found that if i throw my clutch below 4.5k, it will be bogged down...
i must throw my clutch while keeping the car at 4500rpm rev, to get the best result... So far best result tried is 11.8 s using G-tech Pro... -
if you really want a good launch for manual car with turbo, find out when your turbo kicks in, or tune it to desired level. once u clutch in just before the biting point, press the accelerator to the desired rpm level before the turbo kicks in, change gear simultaneously. Remember not to throw e clutch on release. Find out yr gear ratios. Most important.. practice, practice, practice. LSDs do help a lot for cars with too much power.
