There was once I saw an accident involving a Mazda Astina and a van. The Mazda was banged from the back and the whole piece of rear glass panel smashed and injured the passenger behind. If that was a sedan car, the injuries from the impact maybe not be so serious as sedan got a "backside" to protect from any la-ga from the rear.
A hatchbatch is more sporty than sedan. As a family man with kid, I would still prefer a sedan so that all the barang barang can be thrown to the boot as most boots of sedan cars are more spacious as compare to hatchback.
