Depends on what you look for in your car..
Honda Vti, Not the monster performance the older Civics were known for, but still a decent performer. Handling has been firmed up thankfully wif the latest facelift. My dad is driving the Malaysian model with the 2.0l iVTEC.. nice and torque-y albeit without the old prominent VTEC 2nd cam kick of the older B16 engines.
Subaru Impreza, Boxer engine sounds nice AWD handling is best in its class 1.6l engine lacks grunt to do chassis and 4WDtrain justice
Mit Lancer AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE GDI engine not suited for local petrols GLX engine is dunno how many donkey years old (appeared waaay before MIVEC or GDI.. abt Evo 4 timeframe!!) but rehashed for the Singapore market!! CVT transmission makes the whole equation even worse!!
Vios Light Relatively torquey (esp wif such a light chassis) Good potential but really need to firm up the handling and suspension cachet of made in thailand?

Great to see your views! Thanks
Just wondering about Ford Focus Hatchback. Left that out for a moment. What are your views on this car? Heard that is quite a good buy.

I drove the Focus hatch for a year and a half. Engine lacks grunt in the low end, but that car handles incredibly well... out of the factory. Nothing changed in suspension etc.
Took me almost 3-4k worth of mods on my next car just to get it to handle as well as the Focus.
I think the manual transmission version should help compensate for the lack of power.
But we should be seeing the new model soon (the current Mazda 3 and Volvo S40s are all based on the same chassis as the upcoming Focus).
Some people find the new Focus New Edge styling to be softened a little. I think it looks nicer. Current front end looks a little dated.
