car washing and polishing

how often should we wash our cars (new car)? i am talking about washing ourselves not at the petrol station.
and what should we use to wash our cars? just water and detergent and normal cloth? any special cloth or soap?
what about polishing? how often should it be done?

Cars shld be washed with car solutions once a week.... if you feels the need to wash your new car every day... then clean them with clean water instead of using the solutions....
As for polishing you can do it once in a mth or part there of.... Best is that you own the polishing machine as manual polishing with sort of damage the paint works.... if the cloth used is not suitable.
Something extra.... Well, dun go for those manual car washing facilities at petrol station too often... as the foam they used is not really good for paintworks.... :> -
One a week on saturday or sunday would be good enough. Use a normal rag and a shammy cloth for light scrubbing. Old used toothbrushes are good for scrubbing the rims. Get those car washing detergents like selleys at NTUC will do.
Wet the car, go on with soaping and rinse thoroughly with water about twice and dry it thoroughly with a seperate rag as the minerals in tap water will leave a faint residue with marks.
Polishing need not be frequent, say once a month, once again, a dry clean rag would do nicely.
Remember to use a moist rag to wipe the car interiors as well. Keep it dust free. Same goes for the floormats, dun be lazy, take it out and give it a washing down and let dry or a vacuum.

If you're polishing your car yourself, you need not really anything special other than a clean dry rag. Polishing cream or waxes you can get it from NTUC also. Leather from what I know, a moist rag is good enough if you maintain it on a weekly basis. There are special leather care sprays available at you guessed it NTUC. The ones you can use it on your home leather sofa set can be used too. Maintaining a car's cleaniness need not cost a fortune. -
