Trying to do a poll on how many civilized pals are here in this forum!
By CIVILIZED, I mean u drive with caution and care (proper signalling, give-way, drive/park properly, n wat have u...). Some indicators include your acc/near-accident frequencies, your swearing rates, demerits pt/fines u've "achieved", etc...
How do u rate yourself - Mostly (>80%), Moderately (>50%), Not-So (<50%), Total Bo-chap (Never!)?
Mostly (>80%)

but i juz dun like taxi driver...and some other driver who drives like taxi driver as if the road belongs to them...
yesterday chase a taxi...making me very 'du lan' man....

I am ALWAYS considerate when on the road.
I always do the following:
>> Signal my intentions early - though I often wonder why I do so coz others don't give a damn about signalling
>> Park so that the neighboring vehicle can open the door easily - though I also wonder why I do this, as sometimes the neighboring car will park closer to me the further I park away from him... ?
>> Leave and maintain a minimum of two car distance away from the vehicle/s in front of me at all times - but I can't understand the need for those behind me admiring my ass 2 meters from my bumper... ?
>> Never cut into another's lane without good reason - although I constantly keep getting cut into by speed-demons....
>> Turn down to low beam at night when in a small two lane road so that the other side can see ahead - even though the other party maintains his/her normal beam or even switches to high-beam.... ?
You know, I seriously think that our GOV should consider implementing a new rule penalty: Rude Driving Penalty. Once convicted, the culprit will have to take his/her driving test all over again.
I am not saying I am perfect, as I do swear quite a lot while driving. But I NEVER break the rules on the road. I have accumulated no points with the Traffic Police, and have for 20 over years, entered no accident or offence records with the TP.
My highest speed to date was 140Km/h - and that was because my idiot friend didn't tell me about his turbo charger in his Volvo S80 when he let me take care of it while he travels.... that gave me quite a bad scare. -

Your friend is a real idiot, lend U car still got f by U.
2 car distances...depend on yr speed...140km/h needs minimum 160m apart, reports showed 0.75s for reaction to get the foot to the brake pedal, and this is provided if U are alert. Rather 2 s rules is the correct one. -

give myself 75%. used to be 85% until some taxi drivers cut into ppl lane w/o signal... So now i HARDLY give way esp. to taxi drivers, unless they did signal early. If happen my mood not so good, i HORN @ ppl cutting my lane w/o early signal notice, even if i noe in advance tat vehicle is abt to cut in.... -

So try to control your tempament in such situations. For taxis, one good way is to jolt down their nos and launch a complaint to the company. U can do it thru internet; and yes, they do reply. -

Juz few comments:-
Parking in Sg may not be practical with ur suggestion coz the parking lots are usually too small for our likings, even for av-sized cars like mine.
Like Phua says, driving distance between cars shd depend on the speed and road conditions. But I pressume a 2-car gap is good enuff on our highways with max of 90kmph.
Yeah, it's diffcult not to swear on our roads. Consciously telling myself not to do tat as it really spoilts the mood of the journey. Now limiting to 3 swears per drive... and sometimes only 1 or none -
On the issue of inconsiderate Taxi drivers; I would like for the authorities to CONSIDER, pasting a sticker behind the Taxi that reads: "Unsafe driving? Call us at XXXXXXX" where 'X' is the telephone number of the Taxi Company.
Just like what is currently being done with Pizza/KFC Delivery riders on scooters.
This should give cab drivers something to think over before he cuts into people's lane. -
I admit im quite an obedient driver...give signals early and maintain car lengths..and not always speeding..give way..
however.
i will become nasty when:
a) the bugger did not signal if he want to cut lane..if he do that sorry, i dont give way..
b) the bugger suddenly chie to my lane without any notification..i will curse and swear...
so it depends loh..to me..if the other party is good i will be good otherwise dont expect me to be good to him.. -

Reali dislike rude drivers who nvr signal their intention.Some even signal and at the same time cut lane...No difference as no signal...

i'm 51%, very volatile last time my esi got power then i 49%... now i change to vti only 110 hp so i 51%. but if those boh liao ppl like whole day high beam and like want to race one and if i bad mood that day i chiong liao... most of the time i drive around 100 on expressways unless i in hurry

Civilized driver ah ... i think i am half half ... depands on my mood .. i song song i disturb those 'poser' cars with lotsa decals and looks like I-want-to-race, squeeze in every hole i can find when there is a jam ... dun let people change lane when they signal .... and if i am feeling neutral on that day i just drive on the left lane and take my own sweet time

I'm a -50% driver ...
Zip into other lanes very often but with signal. Fast Cornering. Never give way to anyone cutting into my lane unless they signal.
Average speed: 80 - 100km/h not because I'm law-abiding but coz like that burn less fuel. When rushing, 120km/h coz I got a lousy car, max only 160km/h.
Dislike: Taxis, Malaysian cars and bikes
Oh by the way, I passed driving at 1 attempt and scored 10 points coz I hit the curb despite knowing I was close.
So now my front bumper got many scratches of paint coz I always drive very close to the wall at multi storey carparks ... -

I usually start off my journey in a fair mood, often good. But by the time I reached my destination, I will have already lost half if not all my good or fair mood.
Tailgaters are a daily experience. People who cut into my lane narrowly missing my front bumper comes second, and motorists who either don't know how to merge with traffic in an expressway or have no patient to give way by pacing their merge is another.
And then, there are those dreaded roundabouts or circles. The one at Newton is the worst, and the other at Tuas is even worst. I think generally, a lot of motorists DON'T know how to use a circle. Signalling is crucial when using a circle or roundabout, so that others may know your intended exit from the circle/roundabout. Some even cut out from the inner lane of a circle, passing across two lanes just to exit into a road branch! It's mayhem, and downright hazardous!!
Carparks: people don't know that it is a good idea to hit the hazard light button when they find a lot and wants to park. They often just stop and those behind will have to stomp on their brakes, and often need to back up because the car in front starts to reverse without any signals at all.
I think Singaporeans drive the way they walk in general. Total lack of conideration. -
i only want to say...... my father very HIONG one.... and he points the middle finger when he gets really agitated or iritated with non-civilised drivers.... so maybe of the many middle fingers u get.... one might be from him....

In Singapore, putting up your middle finger may and can possibly lead to an ugly scene, and evetually into the Supreme Courts of Singapore.
But in the USA, a middle finger CAN very possibly mean getting shot at by the other party because most motorists carry guns.

I can undertsand how your father gets increasingly intolerant of others as he ages. I feel the same too, and I'm getting older too. It's just that we get so sick and tired of taking people's shit on the road, or at work, that a little bit more seemed too much.
But hey, it's all a matter of letting go. But if one cannot look away, or let go of a provocative situation, the consequences are unpredictable. And in Singapore, going wrong with the Law, can ruin almost everything. -

BTW, don't like people always use Singaporean this Singaporean that because how many in your life U knoes them out of the 4mio people ....100, 200s ? we imported so many "Singaporean", and generalizing is not good b'cos not all behave that way leh.
The LC ang moh will tell U parking into a lot and use the hazard light is nonsense, and most of them don't do reverse parking....we have been mocked at most of the time b'cos they don't do it. So....now who is right who is wrong ? Just want U to realize that situation can be looked from other angle and sometimes there are no straight answers. -

Sorry to say but sometimes we dun see tat we're doing the same selfish acts to others. So the other parties cld juz be retiliating as some of us here have mentioned they wld.
Watever the case, the last thing we want fm driving our cars is to get into unncessary troubles/hazards. Surely it's not too much to assume tat most, if not all of us wld want to reach our destinations in one piece. If possible, I wld like very much to enjoy my drive and end it in the same mood (presume good) as I started it.
While it's not possible to predict or control wat others may do, I wld always tell myself 2b mindful of others on road in order to ensure a safe journey.
