i am looking forward to buy a second hand car as i just converted my license
but i am curious as to where to check the price of second hand car?
or can u guys give me rough estimation of 2nd hand car? thanks

2nd hand car prices usually include COE.

OMV = Open Market Value (i.e. the value the manufacturer quotes from the factory). All sorts of taxes are than based on this value. Go check out the LTA website on the policies. You should have a understanding of all these before buying a car, especially for 2nd hand cars because the tax structure changed in the last few years.

hi soulness, for 2nd hand car, it depends on ur budget. if u have budget, recommend u get 1-3 years old cars... if not u may get more than 10 years cars - cheaper but may get higher chance of breakdown.

Another point is road tax. for cars more than 10 years, additional of road tax is chargeable each additional year. Eg. 11 year pay additonal 10%, 12 yr additional 20%, etc up to max of 15 year.

for 1-3 years old cars, japs cars are abt $600-$700 plus mthly, for koreans cars will be slightly lower abt $500+.

u mean for jap cars i have to fork out 600-700 monthly and for korean cars will be 500+?

i have something that i dont understand, on that website i see some car registered in 1990, 1991 etc which is already more than 10 years
i have thought sg have a system whereby cars more than 10years will be scrapped?
so why are those car still available?
pls advice.

Hi Soulness,

The 600 to 700 monthly for jap car is just an approximation. It can be lower/higher depending on which specific car you getting.

Minimum installment of a car should be about $300+ per month ba.

Cars registered b4 1994 are still on the road as they have renewed the COE, meaning that they buy another 10yrs lifespan for their car from the Govt.

And yes, used car prices always include the COE, unless otherwise stated.

Personally i tink getting a used car is not as much of a wise choice nowsadays.
Esp when the new cars and COE prices have dropped so much....
Somemore a used car, the interests is higher and higher chance to break down.

Is it more worth it to get a brand new car, prob lower end ones like korean cars...
Its just a few more Ks.... and u can get the car of ur own.. brand new !!
