Dear Off-Peak Car owner,
I am a recent off peak car (OPC) owner. I have noticed that the restricted driving hours for OPCs on Saturday is between 7am and 3pm. OPC owners are only able to drive during this period if they use a S$20 decal. However, I feel that it does not make commercial sense for OPC owners to pay S$20 for half a SaturdayÂ’s drive compared to paying S$20 for a full weekdayÂ’s drive. Therefore, I believe that most OPCs are under-utilised on Saturday mornings including mine. I believe the Saturday restriction was set many years ago when the weekend car scheme started. Back then, it was common for many organisations including private and public ones to have a 5.5 days working week, which resulted in heavy traffic on Saturday mornings. This trend has changed over the years and many organisations including the government offices now have a 5 days working week or at least alternative Saturdays off. This has considerably reduced the traffic on Saturday mornings.
Therefore, I would like to lobby LTA to relax the restriction to allow full day unrestricted driving on Saturdays for OPCs as the restriction no longer serves its original purpose.
If you are a OPC owner and would like to support this suggestion please do the following:
1. Send an email to
[email protected] by 30 November with your name and car number. I will submit a letter to LTA with all the ownersÂ’ names and car numbers attached in support of this suggestion.
2. Print 10 copies of this mailer and put it in your car. If you see another OPC, please put this mailer on their windscreen. Deadline: 30 November 2004.
3. Forward this email to your friends.
Thank you,
A OPC owner
