most of the previous owners (yuppies or ah beng) would have used the car to chiong to thailand and come back many times over. most likely the engine already kanna internal injuries. thaz what ppl tell me. if can, get a new one.Originally posted by ricardo79:hi everyone,
just like to hear your comments if you have around 90-100K, will you buy a second hand BMW 318? which is round 2-3 years old.
Or would u rather get some new Jap car. + bodykits.
Also what are the key points to look for if you look for a second hand car?

assume the second hand dealer tempers with the odometer, which will reflect low mileage (not all are like that though), you will not be able to tell by just reading from the meter on mileage, then gotta look at tell tale signs.
experts will be able to tell more. i am just a layman but got some experience.
i kanna one second hand car, at first it was ok, then when i travelled up north, the engine oil dried up pretty quick. found out the piston was already worn off after thorough checking, and the engine block has hairline crack which symptoms would only show under thorough test. from then on the car spewed thick white smoke.
dealers are good at hiding flaws and refuse to take responsibility later, or make it difficult for you to come back at them.
another dealer bought my this car and is putting it up for sale again, i wish the innocent buyer good luck.
other wear and tear can be spotted by experience eyes, get help from experts if you wanna buy one.
seriously consider new ones if you can afford.
my humble opinion, yes, getting from official dealer is a much safer bet. they earn and stand by their reputation most of the time. they dont stinge on little claims from the customers. though official and non official dealers do give you the warranty, the non official ones will show you another face when you go back to them knowing that they can bully you and get away with it.Originally posted by ricardo79:hi KamenRider,
what ar your views if u were to buy a second hand car from the "official dealer" eg. SM Motors / Tan Chong type...
Will it be "safer"? I dun think they will 'change the mileage;..etc..
also will they provide you with warranty?

if u say this....then the proportion of those ah bengs having those jap cars are even higher in ratio to going over to KL or thailand....just take a look at the N/S HW...Originally posted by KamenRider:most of the previous owners (yuppies or ah beng) would have used the car to chiong to thailand and come back many times over. most likely the engine already kanna internal injuries. thaz what ppl tell me. if can, get a new one.
in the 1st place, you CANNOT compare a BMW with a JAPANESE CAR.Originally posted by ricardo79:hi everyone,

in short... get a reliable dealer if you're going for a 2nd hand dealer.Originally posted by KamenRider:just my 2 cents worth, not all are like that though,
