Thanks for all the tips. Intend to change car early next year. Abit sick of driving manual alreadi.Originally posted by david3305:Here's some methods that can help you improve the FC of your Sunny:
a. Don't overload the boot. Get rid of unnecessary stuff except spare tyre.
b. If driving manual, try to keep rpm below 2000 (that will gives you 70-75km cruising speed) in 5th gear.
c. Try the 1-3-5 gear shift method(this is strictly for highway driving to attain the highway speed asap). Lesser gear change means less high rev for the engine and is good for the FC.
d. Switch off engine when waiting for more than 5 minutes.
e. When going down hill, release accelerator or maintain same pressure (the extreme type will move to neutral gear but try not to if you are a new driver)
f. Plan your route before you set off. Highway driving will usually gives you better returns on FC than urban driving even though the urban route maybe shorter. Remember, more frequency of gear change means higher FC. Always use the next higher gear where possible( the lower the rpm is maintain, the better the FC)
Special: Switching to netural gear to save petrol
Most people will swtich to neutral when going down hill or crusing to a traffic light stop. I do that too (I even switch off the engine when struck in a bad jam). Mentally it makes you believe you are saving petrol but actually no difference lah. You have to brake nore and sometimes when you re-engage, you may damgae the gear box as you may have selected the wrong gear.
I used to own a Nissan Sunny SS model(N16)manual and the FC is 525km for 55 litres(full tank). The auto I heard only returns 330km.
If need to go to such extreme, must as well ride a motorcycle...Originally posted by cleong:Try pumping up your tires to the maximum allowed pressure. Drive without aircon for example at night, wind the windows down.
how abt auto? drove 1.6 auto, last time i chk was 6km/l, duno izit onli mine like tat...Originally posted by david3305:Here's some methods that can help you improve the FC of your Sunny:

Don't forget your tools, without the tools, Spare Tire is useless when puncture takes place.Originally posted by david3305:Here's some methods that can help you improve the FC of your Sunny:

a. Quite contradicting..."clutch down and free wheel upon seeing red lights in front. Remember to use Engine Brake to stop for safety and to prolong the life of your brake pads".Originally posted by pixy:Don't forget your tools, without the tools, Spare Tire is useless when puncture takes place.
By doing b. and c., you will damage your transmission, ie. your gears, not recommended.
To save fuel, always rev gently up to 2000 rpm (at least) before changing up to the next gear, from gear 1st to 5th gear of course, use 5th gear when driving more than 60Km/h. Always 'glide', ie. clutch down and free wheel upon seeing red lights in front. Remember to use Engine Brake to stop for safety, and to prolong the life of your brake pads. Have a smooth crusing journey, avoids sudden starts and stops.
"Lesser gear change means less high rev for the engine and is good for the FC."
"Remember, more frequency of gear change means higher FC"
Not true, you need to change up or down according to the speed you are travelling. The true fact to fuel saving is not to over rev your engine unneccesarily.
"( the lower the rpm is maintain, the better the FC)"
Minimum rev is at 2000rpm when changing up to next gear as mentioned above.
should I re-phrase it... clutch down and free wheel upon seeing red lights in front, upon stopping, use Engine Brake to stop for safety and to prolong the life of your brake pads.Originally posted by david3305:a. b. Using 1,3, 5 method is a methodology taught at advance driving course.

Probably for performance driving, and more for performance cars, Sunny? dun even think of itunless your hobby is to frequent TCM Service Centre
