So what car did you buy? Kia Spectra? btw OverDrive Gear is 3rd and not 5th, you car does not come with 5th gear, most cars don't.Originally posted by teohse:Hey, u guys, Just bought an automatic transmission car. Need u to share some experience how to drive it. Especially, slope drive, up the hill and down the hill. Which gear should i use??
Mine 4 speed auto car, with 5th gear OD drive. Pls comment
Yes,Spectra. My concern is on slope drive, up hill and down hill. For manual car, when going down the hill, v engage to LOW Gear. But in auto, does it means that engage to "D" and it will automatically do the rest for u.(LOW gear)Originally posted by pixy:So what car did you buy? **** ok, u r rite. It is called "Over-drive OFF". Since u had said that, it makes me more confuse. Hope u can clarify with me. The sales men told me to switch the "Over-drive OFF" button when u r ridding on highway (110KM/H) or intend to overtake during high speed. It said, doing so will give u power and less fuel consumption. Ok, agree. But, u said the "O/D" will always transmit up to 3rd gear at most. If so, then can i said that during high speed drive. O/D is not advice to be turn on. As, the engine need to be in top gear for smooth driving. If so, then can i said wat the salesman comment is wrong?? Pls clarify with me with 1 is correct ************* [/u][/u]Originally posted by Theatre Of Dreams:haha how did pixy magically know you're driving spectra?
i believe for spectra, there're only 4 gears in the auto transmission. the over-drive as referred by you COULD BE meant by "over-drive OFF" which means that when you activate it, your transmission will reach 3rd gear at most.
auto transmissions which have more than 4 include the honda odyssey which have 5, and the lexus ls430 with 6.
yes the auto transmission takes care of the fuss since you've paid the extra few grand for the AUTO. going upslope, it will downshift to gain extra push if your car is losing the torque. however, in cases when it's not responsive enough, you may step on the gas further to signal for the extra push, or use the over-drive off function, or manually shift the auto gear-stick to the lower numbers.
going downslope, haha, that's why auto cars tend to eat brake pads more. however for long downward distances, again, that's what the smaller numbers below the D come into good use to spare those brake pads.
haha i think the salesman means switch OFF the "Over-drive Off" function. in other words, he's asking you to keep the over-drive active. for the cars i know, not sure about spectra, the indicator when lit shows "Over-drive Off". as long as the light is off, over-drive is active as normal. when i said the gear reaches 3rd at most, it is when "Over-drive Off" lights up. i hope the spectra works this way if not i think i'll be confusing you LOL.Originally posted by teohse:**** ok, u r rite. ****and u also comment that during up hill. To gain more power, again i need to push the "over-Drive OFF" button.
