Rear/door guards a good investment?

Anyone using the rear/door guards/protectors now?? Those that you stick to the back bumper and doors to prevent scratching the body of the car.
Is it DIY, or do you have to go the workshop to have it fixed? Please comment if it is necessary and useful.
Also, cat mats. Anyone using those 3M carmats?? They are realli ex.. tat's y i'm trying to find out if it is worth the bucks!

i'd rather suffer those minor dents instead haha. i'd rather go out with a pimple than go out with heavy pimple cream on it 
well if the guards are of your car body colour then not so bad... -
nice nice...as it say it is a guard to protect your door and bumper...get it from Autobac or Stamford Tyre

The door guards are ugly as hell.
They also increased fuel consumption by creating additional drag.
In any case, they don't offer 100% protection due to different door sizes and height of other vehicles.
