spoilers are used to create drag so as to keep the car firmly on the road. but this is only required when u are travelling at extreme speeds.
in view of having a better fuel comsumption, is it possible to invert a spoiler to make it create lift instead of drag? when the car is loaded with items or having 3 passengers on board, a significant weight is added to car, not to mention an increase in FC. so when these xtra loads are added to the car is it possible for the inverted spoiler to create lift to reduce some of the weights.
of coz the angle of elevation of the spoiler has to be calculated so that the excat angle will create lift as well as to make the tyres have full contact with the road for full traction. -
Some things don't work both ways.
By inverting the angles of the spoiler, you actually spoil the ideal airflow going over the car's body. Thereby increasing its resistance to air and thus giving you an even lousier fuel consumption. A car is designed to its limits with buffers for safety put in, so you can still load 3 people behind the back without much to worry about. Of course you don't try double that number lah, you catch my drift? -
um... for a spoiler to create lift, it has to going fast too...
a spoiler is basically just an inverted airfoil.
and since most spoilers are meant to be decoration, an inverted airfoil isn't gonna make the car look nice at all. because the angle of attack to generate lift will make it look ugly. -

I can say that it works for F1 cars, but the kind you see on our roads... ehhhhhhhhhhhh... not much of an effect. -
oh so the spoilers are juz for show? no wonder i was looking at my dads spoiler and wonder how come the airfoil looks so wierd. as though no drag is created. thanks anyway.

If your spoiler is damn heavy, it'll create drag as well, even when your car is stationary.

to understand aerodynamics, pls go to ntu MPE windtunnel lab, there got a chart abt shapes of car (scaled down) and the air turbu ard each shape.

the spoilers are meant to create downforce to gain greater traction at high speeds.
let's say, assuming you're able to attain lift at Really high speeds and so attain lower fuel consumption, won't it also affect the grip of the car? cornering will be a risk. -
