why not propose alternate trains will skip stations like Newton, Braddell, Commonwealth etc?
anw, fyi, abt 95% of passengers, who took the through train mostly boarded from Yew Tee, dont alight at JE. the train already super packed to the door when it calls at JE.. dosent really ease the load at all when so few people alights at JE
What if I live at and want to board at Jurong East? Think about it.
And if I skip a station, I will not be able to go faster than the next train (Wah, train nowadays can switch lane and overtake the next train lah?!). So what happens is that I will akip station A and be held behind the next train at a red signal. No, no sense skipping stations.
if u recalled, in the past few years, many people screamed that they want parallel tracks so that there can be "express" trains that skips stations..
peak period rush hour people dont care where the train is terminating at.. just board and go..
Express trains are complex systems... And do our streets look like we can have 4 wide tracks in the middle like NYCT's?
CCL train overshot Bishan in CM.
People,
Let's chill. This was meant to be a question thread. Not a debate thread. Everyone's opinion should be neutral. Neither one sided. If you list an advantage, list the disadvantages too..
Keep it cool in here.. Like I said, this thread is for people to clear their doubts abt things that they are not sure of...
Why do we have non-service trains?
Noticed that immediately after the rush hour, there are some non service trains that stop at the station but passengers are not expected/allowed to board.
Unless such trains are going for a repair and are not suitable for occupation, they should be allowed to be used by commuters. Because, in any case, these have to wait until the passenger train in front clears each station and under no circumstance can overtake it. so why not let them be used?

You mean DNB?
Please answer:
Why everytime I entered the station.
Example at
Chinese Garden Stn. Announcement: Attention please, for your safely please stand behind the Yellow Line, please stand behind the Yellow Line(Repeat) Always have this announce why not change like sometime "and give way to alighting...."
Clementi Stn. Announcement: Attention please, for your safely please stand behind the Yellow Line Thank You. (CHI,MAL,TAM) (ALWAYS)
Woodlands Stn. Announcement: Attention please, for you safely please stand behind the Yellow Line and give way to alighting passengers before boarding thank you. (ALWAYS)
Why Different???

These trains are (usually) returning to depot as the train interval is increased. And of course sometimes someone will decided to stay on a train as it transitions into an DNB service, and thus, the need for staff to check and clear the train.

No , all the station have same annoucement. Sat , Sun and peak hour , they will play the other two annoucements plus "Attention please , please give way to alighting passengers before boarding . Thank You."
After the end of the Yishun peak hour service, does a train that serves the Yishun peak hour go back to the depot? Also, is there a pattern for the run numbers of the trains that serve the Yishun peak hour service?

Some trains continue on to do the whole NSL. They use the TRN with NSL.
In ATC mode , can TO move off with P1 then P4 or only can pull to P4?

ATC mode? If you are trying to say CM mode, the answer is yes.

Sorry , I mean Auto mode.
I dunno if this post is ok, but here is a question:
1: When do we know the details of DTL3 / who won the tender and for how long (SMRT signed a 30 year contract with LTA in 1998, and a 10 year contract since 1988)
2: Suggests a suitable depot location for these future lines:
a): For Downtown Line, it would be Gali Batu, Kim Chuan and Marina Bay (Maintenance Facility, before DTL2 and 3 operates) --- BTW, what does the maintenance facility and depot's difference? And does Harbourfront (Or any other places) has one such?
b): Where could the Thomson Line had their depot? Personally, I would guess is Bishan but there is no source for me to confirm.
c):Is there a chance that the 3rd track in Paya Lebar could jolly well to connect Eastern Region Line such that is for Depot purpose? (Kim Chuan depot host trains for Circle, Downtown and Eastern Region?) Or would LTA build a new one along the line? (Even so, i will guess @ Siglap or Changi Point or, actually, is the Changi Depot -- hey, why not downtown also use that, since the terminus is Expo?)
d): If the North Shore Line were actually to be built, could it be that is a NEL extension? This is because a 17 station (Include 16 fully built stations -- Woodlegih as well, and a future NE2) line seemed a bit too short and few stations to be considered a major line.
3: Actually, what is the real purpose of having a third track on Ang Mo Kio and Paya Lebar? Apart of depot purpose (Paya Lebar? Why not @ Bartley or Tai Seng??), and given that the Ang Mo Kio structure is more resemble to Jurong East, it is really seemed that it can be extended but the place can be extended seemed to be quite limited.

May be wait for next 20years to know about North Shore Line. And I think the NEL will not build extension. Because the island was end.
I thinked Sungei Kadut and Canberra Station will be 20 years later, because the STARIS map all no space for the future station. Kampong Bahru MRT not too sure for NEL.
on NEL
the train announcement keep repeating.. pls dont lean on train doors
EVERY STOP !!! omg
wad happen actually? There was a delay a couple of days ago and i was at dhoby ghaut
and there was an announcement that train will be delayed and ask us to take alternative transport
but luckily we wait, coz the delay is oni like 5 mins? den the train came, but move very slowly
When a train have ATC braking problem , how do they fix it ?

I went inside (In the defunct thread) to verify the claim that Circle Line has a middle platform @ Paya Lebar.

Paya Lebar Station is just like Ang Mo Kio Station but just that it is underground
