i used to take from Bishan to Orchard. its about 15 min excluding waiting time at bishan and including time for stopping at each station. from Bishan to City Hall is about 20 min.from Serangoon to Dhoby Ghaut is about 12 min. so their 21 min definitely took into account transfer time, and so should their 18 min take into account transfer time since they made a comparison. and fact is from Serangoon to Orchard even if dont take into account waiting time also cannot take 18 min so fast.
10m15s flat on normal profile, 9m15s on fast profile. u shld have counted wrongly. bishan to city hall is 15m45s/14m30s (due to no fast profile possible on DBG and CTH).

i never go and use timer and time how many secs or go and see whether train is what kind of speed profile. just that thru previous frequent rides on NSL the average time i take is 15 min from Bishan to Orchard, and 20 min from Bishan to City hall. in any case, i just want to say i think there's something wrong with the 18 min timing from Serangoon to Orchard mentioned in zaobao. average out, i dont believe the CCL way is clearly faster than the NEL way. they should be about the same time.
i am so happy
NEL is surprising a zip into 16 stations
serangoon to orchard is around 20 mins from my experience.
21 mins and 18 mins is no difference at all. for a person who walks fast, 3 min very easy to make up.
in other news, my friend is currently doing security work at dakota station. take care of platform area.

next issue comes is, can I easily board e NSL to Orchard at Bishan?
Originally posted by disappear:from Serangoon to Orchard can take CCL and transfer at Bishan. zaobao says it takes 18 min to reach compared to 21 min taking NEL and transferring at Dhoby. i suspect both ways take about the same time and i dont believe can reach in 18 min because from Bishan to Orchard is already about 15 min. i dont know how they calculate the Serangoon to Orchard one as the press release only gave Buangkok to Toa Payoh and Bishan to Serangoon as examples.
anyway from Serangoon to Orchard the fare will become cheaper because of the CCL but pple can still choose the NEL route and pay the same cheaper fare. in this way the CCL can actually benefit pple who dont use it and who prefer the current mrt routes. e.g. Hougang to Newton, because of the CCL the fare becomes cheaper, but i think some will still prefer to transfer once at Dhoby rather than transfer twice at Serangoon and Bishan
buangkok to tpy got give bus example ma
142 den NEL?
actually if pulled off well 142 NEL should be faster.

lol?
why?
im serious here. Potong Pasir to Serangoon only 1 stop. instead TPY to Bishan 2 stops, transfer, Bishan to Serangoon 2 stops.

if take all MRT need to transfer twice, if take 142 transfer once only. but if waiting time for 142 is long then also not much difference. 142 also must some traffic lights.

zzz... wish I could go, but I won't be in Sg for about the 2nd half of May, so won't be able to attend both the Open House & the actual opening itself.
Any idea why the tour is 2 hours long?
i was wondering about the programme also. i dont know how they plan it, but it seems that this is because we will be touring all the 5 stations, and no matter which station u start from it doesnt matter.
