Circle Line Open House
1 Members of the public were invited to visit the five new Circle Line stations from Bartley to Marymount in an open house organised by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on 23 May 2009. This full-day event, named the Circle Line Discovery, gave the public an opportunity to get a sneak preview of the stations and go on the line's very first train rides to discover the connectivity and accessibility that the Circle Line brings. (Please refer to examples on time savings on the Annex enclosed.)
2 Mr Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive of the LTA said: "Each time before we open a big infrastructural project, such as the KPE, and this year, the Circle Line, we like to invite the public to a sneak preview. The construction of this stretch of Circle Line progressed smoothly thanks to the outstanding efforts of everyone involved - LTA staff, our consultants, the operator and the contractors. The understanding and unstinting show of support by members of the public such as the residents, schools, shop owners and motorists also played a big part. Today, we have organised this open house to thank them, and present the benefits Circle Line brings."
Circle Line from Bartley to Marymount
3 This stretch of Circle Line, from Bartley to Marymount is 5.7 kilometres long, has five stations - Bartley, Serangoon, Lorong Chuan, Bishan and Marymount -- and will open for passenger service on 28 May 2009.
4 With its two interchange stations, commuters will be able to connect to the North-South Line at Bishan Station and the North-East Line at Serangoon Station. This gives commuters easier access to the other lines and more direct travel to the city and other parts of Singapore.
5 The layout and design of these stations cater to the diverse needs of many commuters, including the elderly, the visually handicapped, those in wheelchairs, and parents with baby strollers. All five stations have wide fare gates, lifts at the entrances and platforms, and handicapped-friendly toilets. At the interchange stations, the linkages to the different lines are also wheelchair-friendly.
6 55,000 people are expected to use the five stations every day. Circle Line commuters will enjoy an even more pleasant journey with the continuation of LTA's Art in Transit programme, the unique inegrated art in every station, conceived and created by local artists. Special art seats are also found at the platforms of the two interchange stations.
Circle Line Discovery Event Highlights
7 During the open house on 23 May, the public were invited to visit the five stations and enjoy free train rides from 9.00am to 6.00pm.
8 The public were entertained by songs and music put up by community groups such as Yangzheng Primary School, Thomson Community Centre's singing interest group and Ngee Ann Polytechnic's percussion group. They were also invited to participate in games and quizzes at each station, hosted by five different celebrity emcees such as Class 95's Glenn Ong and 987FM's Justin Ang.
9 In addition to an appearance by our favorite contractor, Phua Chu Kang, Channel U's Campus Superstar Champion, Jarod Lee, and Runner-up, Rachel Chua, also wowed participants with their powerful vocals. Channel U programme hosts of On the Beat made a special appearance to meet fans and residents, adding to the fun and excitement during the event.
10 The train rides will also be unusual as visitors were entertained by a skit presented by Nanyang Junior College.

5 Circle Line stations open
THE first five stations of the new Circle Line were opened by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean on Wednesday morning.
Trains will start rolling from Thursday morning at Bartley, Serangoon, Lorong Chuan, Bishan and Marymount stations.
Commuters can transfer to the existing North-South line and North-East line at Bishan and Serangoon respectively.
'The Circle Line will open up multiple new connections for residents in the north and the north-east,' said Mr Teo before launching the new line.
About 55,000 commuters are expected to use the first five stations every day.
The remaining 24 stations of the line will open from next year. Once fully operational, the line's daily ridership is expected to go up to 500,000.
Transport Minister Raymond Lim told reporters on Wednesday that progress at the other stations are on track.
Tunnelling work for the entire line is almost completed, and is expected to be finished by September, said the Land Transport Authority.
While it is not clear yet which other stations will open next, the LTA said six stations have already received the Temporary Occupation Permit - an indication that they will be next in line.
These are Dhoby Ghaut, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Promenade, Stadium and Tai Seng.
Public transport operator SMRT, which will operate the new line, said it will donate takings from its first 22 days of operations to charity.
SMRT's president and chief executive officer Saw Phaik Hwa said the operator expects to collect about $400,000.

I guess LTA is waiting for the TOP for MacPherson, Paya Lebar, Dakota and Mountbatten, then they can open both stage 1 and 2 on the same day.
As for Nicoll Highway, maybe they can open it later, like what they did to Buangkok when NEL just opened.
I am going to the offical opening of CCL.
as i told last week, i will be going there from 11am - 2pm tommorow!
I am going from 4pm to 5pm/6pm.
