Hmm...circle line has officially started...thought it would be great to start a discussion on it...
First things first...Wouldn't it be a disaster when in the future where all the stations are open and during peak hours people have to squeeze into 3cabins? I mean, 6 cabins already got problem, what more for 3cabins?
i took the circle line first time yesterday
i prefer the old bishan station where north-south lines on the same platform. i totally dislike split platforms such as Ang Mo Kio, Braddell and new Bishan
from this..
to this..
same train, 1st picture just leaving marymount, 2nd picture just leaving Bishan (all towards Bartley)
yeah...just imagine the line is fully opened...will be jam packed at mostly all the interchanges...

Ask LTA. They planned CCL as a medium capacity line.

sorry tranquilice, i mean the split platform at Bishan NSL, not Bishan CCL

braddell must split because of the buildings nearby..

yeah..
Today when i boarded CCL at about 1.30pm (828) , the train was super empty.
It seems like 1 cabin only had about 10-20 ppl.
bishan quite crowded today, and CCL currently main serving is to school

today got celebration ma
on 28 may, me and my gf wanted to go down to orchard from sengkang...so we were discussing if we should take the original North South line from SK to D.Ghalt and then change over to Orchard, or alight at serangoon, make two transfers then head for orchard...
I counted the number of stations needed to take for the original route, 13 stations in all...what suprised me was for circle route, it took the same number of stations...13!
She argued that making two transfers increases waiting time and also have to go down the super long escalator at serangoon, not forgetting waiting time for the train. And from Serangoon to L.Chuan takes really some time to reach...
It somewhat made sense to me...and I also thought that with only 5 stations opened, how many trains can they put in through the tunnels? So I guessed that frequency wise would also take some time...
But the ultimate outcome was we decided to go Bugis instead...lol.
joyrided on circle line at ard 8pm just now..
like me, everyone else only took the train from serangoon to bishan only.

Why 3 cars? Because initially when LTA planned the line, it was planned as 5.4 km with 6 stations only. Due to this, it is to be a medium capacity line known as the Marina Line (MRL).
Quote: The 5.4-km long medium capacity Marina Line, with six stations, will run from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, below Bras Basah Road to Marina Centre and then continue below Nicoll Highway to the Stadium Boulevard. Construction work on the Marina Line is scheduled to begin at the end of 2001 and is target to complete in 2005/2006.

In 2001, they decided to extend the Marina Line to become a circle, which gives Circle Line its name. Also they decided that although the line is extended with another 23 stations, it will remains as a medium capacity line.

for me..
NSL,EWL,NEL are the head lines.
CCL & future lines with 3 cabins are the sub lines..
LRTs are like feeder lines..

1. the concept of having a 3-car train every 2.5 minute (for example) instead of a 6-car train every 5 minutes.
2. quicker completion time
3. less construction risks associated with smaller stations
4. station location and tunnel alignment could afford to be more versatile than that supporting 6-car trains
but based on e train ordered and delivered, e freq might end up like 3 - 4 mins during Peak
if they are gonna have 3 cabins per train, they had better have better frequencies when it's fully up & running
at the very worst, LTA has to suffice with building another line to relieve congestion
I guess they are already...? Downtown line is already starting its constructions...
