hey guys i have a query here
Couple of days back i was waiting for a CCL train, and i experienced something i guess is a glitch. The ETA board stated 4 mins. After awhile it went up to 5 mins, then went down to 4, then 3, and suddenly the timing disappeared... as in no ETA shown... After that suddenly 7 mins then almost immediately after that train arrives (ETA shows flashing (8) Marymount)
All in all the train took about 5 mins to arrive. Anyone knows what happened?
Also very frequently, the ETA boards (both outside stn and inside) seem to show like some virtual train running in tunnels leh something like this:
Bartley <blank space>
Bartley 3 mins
the thing is when this occurs, there is no train at the platform cos if there is the sign would say "arrived" instead of blank. And then 3 mins later the train would arrive and the one with the blank space never existed.... Bros care to enlighten? Sorry for such a long post I'm damn long winded today
probably the train is 'U-turning'?
LTA completes final tunnelling work on Circle Line
SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has finally completed all tunnelling work for the Circle Line.
Engineers said working on stage four of the project was particularly challenging because of the route's geological conditions.
Ow Chuan Nam, director, Circle Line 4, LTA, said: "This route consists
of… soft ground plus hard ground. You name it, we have it. And also,
it's quite a long route to bore through, three kilometres in fact.
LTA said work on the Circle Line is on schedule, with about 76 per
cent of the railway track already completed. All forty trains for the
Circle Line have been delivered to the Kim Chuan Depot.
Five stations - Dhoby Ghaut, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Promenade and
Tai Seng - are expected to get their temporary occupancy permits by the
end of 2009, with revenue services for the remaining stations expected
to start progressively from 2010 onwards.
Yam Ah Mee, chief executive, LTA, said: "We will only decide on
which segment (to start operating) subsequently upon the successful
completion of the lines, and when LTA together with SMRT have fully
tested the lines."
The 33.3-kilometre rail project is expected to hit a daily ridership of half a million when fully operational.
SMRT said last month's daily ridership has only hit 32,000, lower that the initial projected daily ridership of 55,000.
The LTA said it will be moving Farrer Road back to its original alignment in end-2010, with an extra lane added.

Refer to this news on 27 May: http://sgblogs.com/entry/circle-line-stations-open/343437, it mentioned that Dhoby Ghaut, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Promenade, Stadium and Tai Seng have already received the Temporary Occupation Permit.
As for the news above-mentioned, it states that Dhoby Ghaut, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Promenade and Tai Seng will get the Temporary Occupancy Permit by the end of the year.
Is there a difference between Temporary Occupation Permit and Temporary Occupancy Permit?
I believe they are both the same.
SINGAPORE: The next phase of the Circle Line – Stages 1 and 2 – will start operations in the first half of 2010. Transport Minister Raymond Lim revealed this at a dialogue session in Bukit Panjang on Sunday.
Its exact opening date, however, will only be finalised after engineers complete the necessary tests.
The first five stations on the Circle Line opened for service on May 28. Even though ridership has not been as high as initially projected on the 5.7-kilometre stretch, this could change with the opening of 11 new stations next year.
Stage 1 of the Circle Line starts from Dhoby Ghaut, through MRT stations like Esplanade and Nicoll Highway, and ends at Stadium, while Stage 2 starts from Mountbatten, through interchange station Paya Lebar, and ends at Tai Seng.
The other 13 stations from Marymount to Harbourfront will be ready by 2011. Daily ridership of this 33.3-kilometre line is estimated to be close to half a million when it is fully operational.
As for buses, the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which is taking over the role of central bus network planner from year's end, will consult grassroots leaders islandwide on how to improve the bus network from next month.
Mr Lim said: "Rather than do a major overhaul of the existing system which may actually lead to people being worse off, (we want to) get a feel of how residents want this because really, there is no right or wrong answer here. Different people have different needs and want it done differently."
LTA hopes to complete this consultation exercise by end-March next year.
A Bukit Panjang resident, whose child has to endure long bus rides to school, said: "Because there are no direct buses, it takes three hours of travelling time, to and fro, from our constituency to Nanyang Technological University."
Another resident has a grouse on the location of a new MRT station which is to be built in Bukit Panjang as part of the new Downtown Line.
"All of us are very happy about that, but the location isn't very convenient because it's not linked to the LRT and is far away from the interchange," he said.
Responding to this, Mr Lim said there are technical constraints in the area, but the LTA is looking for a better solution.
What Bukit Panjang's grassroots leaders hope to achieve in their talks with the LTA is to move the bus interchange from its current premises closer to the new MRT station of the Downtown Line.
This would then link all three transport nodes – MRT, LRT and buses – within a 70-metre radius. Currently, the proposed new MRT station is 120 metres away from the bus interchange.

11 stations open in 2010
ANOTHER 11 MRT stations on the new Circle Line will open in the first half of next year, cutting the travel time for commuters between the east and the north as well as north-east parts of the island.
The timeframe was announced on Sunday by Transport Minister Raymond Lim. These stations, which stretch from Dhoby Ghaut to Bartley via Paya Lebar, will spare MRT commuters the extra journey they now must make through the city centre before reaching their destination.
Also, these stops will bring the MRT for the first time to residents in estates such as Mountbatten and MacPherson.
Their opening adds to the five already in operation and marks the completion of 16 of the 29 stations on the Circle Line.
It will ease crowding on existing lines and encourage more people to take public transport, an outcome that is in line with a government masterplan to reduce travelling times and avoid road congestion.
In making the announcement, Mr Lim said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will give the actual date closer to the opening of the stations.
Meanwhile, tests are being done 'to ensure the system is reliable and safe before they open it to the public', he added.
Mr Lim was speaking at a dialogue with about 500 Bukit Panjang residents after a ministerial visit to the single-seat ward helmed by Dr Teo Ho Pin.
Commuters like bank officer Kenny Ng, 27, who lives near Lorong Chuan station, welcomed the improved connectivity, saying 'going down to town will be much easier and faster'.
By June, a train journey from Bishan to Paya Lebar, for instance, will take 17min instead of the 33min to 35min now. This is because the journey will bypass the city centre and not require a transfer.

I was at BSH CCL station just now and I looked at the RATIS , from 6 to 7 to 6 to 5 to 4 to 5 then 4 , 3 , 2 , 1. Towards Marymount. RATIS towards Bartley was better , once from 6 mins and in a second to 3 mins.
Some weeks ago I saw on news that they are preventing any stations to be closed while the whole train line is running? Will this delay the opening of stage 1 and 2? any news about this?

I meant the Marymount annoucement is different. It goes like this . "Dingdong. Marymount. This train service terminates at this station, all passengers please alight. Thank You for travelling with SMRT. (Wait for the doors to open). Marymount. Please mind the platform gap." After 30-45 sec, the annoucement "Marymount. Please mind the platform gap" is played again.
You are right. When I alight at Marymount Stn, wait 20sec the announcement played again. "Marymount, Please mind the platform gap"
Wikipedia Said Something About Harbourfront Station:
Platform A of the North East Line is sometimes used to park trains.
Platform B of the Circle Line is sometimes used to park trains.
