Transport operators step up security at all depots after graffiti
incident
By Satish Cheney | Posted: 09 June 2010 2017 hrs
SINGAPORE : Transport operators have stepped up security at all
depots following the graffiti incident.
The spray-paint graffiti on an SMRT train showed a lapse in security at
its Changi depot.
While security has been beefed up at train depots, SMRT now said it's
also increasing surveillance at all its bus terminals.
An SMRT spokesperson said: "Specifically, we have increased security
personnel and patrol frequency, and are reviewing the perimeter fencing
of our bus depots. Our bus depot staff and service leaders have also
been briefed to be more vigilant and to exercise stricter scrutiny."
The incident has also led others to review their operations.
Singapore's main bus operator, SBS Transit, said it has further
tightened security measures.
As for the graffiti incident, SMRT had said they'd mistaken it for an
advertisement.
"If no one told me it's graffiti, I would have thought it's part of an
advertisement. I'm also surprised it took them two days to find out that
a hole was cut in the fence," said one Singapore resident.
"More like advertisement. He done it quite well," said another.
Meanwhile, authorities said they are seriously looking at the matter.
The public transport operators, along with the transport ministry,
police, Land Transport Authority and other stakeholders are discussing
how to step up security measures.
Details are expected to be released at the end of the week. - CNA /ls

ZaoBao Report On 047/048
The transport company came out with "regret" due to the pressure and outcry of the public.
This is typical elite high handed method of self-denial.
The authority have been silent over the incident and acted as if they are not involved.
