Yeah if they build the whole thing underground, who pays for it? Taxpayers =P. Still, lose-lose.
1 way to solve - Build sound-proof glass if you want your house value beside the MRT station or MRT tracks =P

during the "Great Tampines MRT accident", i was having a poop in the toilet at 5am when announcements were made that there were no train service. i immediately asked the parents for the car to go to camp & rounded all the east-siders to go camp w/ me and told them no train.

Yeah, at Bukit Panjang =P
Every 5 mins you hear "The train is arriving, please stand back". I guarantee you that if you live beside the station, you won't be able to sleep after 8am =P Too noisy already

And ya.The KTM Trains i know they use diesel.
Don’t think MRT can’t afford it. It is much more depending on they want to do it or not…
Just google…found this local company is selling kind of sound proof system for outdoor use and the train track…
http://www.igh.com.sg/products-soundabsorp.html
but why never see such product in any of our MRT track?
even i stay 500m away from Lakeside station, i can hear mostly C651.. C151 and C751B some can hear... 1 day got C151 horning, i heard it.. "piioooonnnggpiiiooooonnngggg". =)
This is a serious issue...hope LTA with SMRT & SBS must have a deep consideration on it...
