Help name Downtown Line stations

SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is inviting the public to suggest names for 13 Downtown Line 3 stations.
LTA said the proposed station names should help commuters remember the names and identify the area of the station.
It should also illustrate where possible, the history and heritage of the station surroundings.
In addition, the station names should not be named after public structures, or commercial and residential developments.
Participants are required to briefly provide the rationale for their suggested names.
The Downtown Line 3 is a 21km underground rail system comprising 16 stations, starting at River Valley station and ending at the Expo station.
The stations involved in the exercise are located at River Valley, Bencoolen, Sungei Road, Jalan Besar, Kallang Bahru, Mattar, Ubi, Kaki Bukit, Bedok Town Park, Bedok Reservoir, Tampines West, Tampines East and Upper Changi.
The three interchanges -- MacPherson, Tampines and Expo-- are excluded in the exercise since the names will remain the same.
The public can send their suggestions to the LTA website or by fax and mail.
The closing date for submission is on January 12 next year.
