I am quite surprised as their "income opportunity" have increased after the fare increase and understand that is why there is a "template" for the taxi uncles.
As for the unforseen event, it is will be treated as an isolated incident.
As at 6.50am 17-12-2011 till now , NS suffered yet another major disruption .
3 major disruptions in 4 days- 14th, 15th 17th.
now i await another 3 days to go buy toto with those numbers
i think they shutdown mrt and go take a 1 month vacation to switzerland nobody can do much from mrt fares to things that management plans or dont bother.

Breakdown again

ya ! totally unbelievable. many netizens respond with disbelief too.
It should be a major technical hitch.
SMRT have to spend more time to rectify and fix the problem.
They have to gain understanding and forgiveness from the general public.
As for taxi uncle, time to come out and earn money.
we can complain all we want. so?
we still lan lan right?
dont take train. take bus. same owner. dont take bus. take taxi. still same owner.
cheers to 'competition'!!!
service resume liao mah?

There's nothing unbelievable.
If the train that caused damage to 40m of power rail completed its journey, obviously the chances of it damaging another section of rail elsewhere is much higher.
smrt, it time to wake up the idea. fare hike somemore, i say we have one disrupption in a year, no fare hike for another year.
fucking suzs this time of service.

Shouldn't this be totally expected and the track inspected?

U overhaul the entire line on Friday, check all the train and tracks… Declare non working day.
If still cannot finish, continue on Sat.
This kind of thing cannot say try n resume asap
If the line has to be closed for one day, the inconvenience is expected. People can make arrangements to get to work on time.
If a major breakdown actually happens, it's unexpected. By nature, even your own recovery arrangements and shuttle buses will be slow to activate.
Option B is hoping you won't lose face. But in the end, you lose even more face.

Well, if a layman who's trained in humanities and social sciences rather than engineering can figure this one out, then what say you?
My suspicion is vindicated.
Lucky it's weekend and people have the choice of staying at home and not going to town.
If it was a weekday, chaos at the workplace.

They have hammer at the bus, none for the MRT.
It will be interesting to see what they do about it .
But, I believe I will be disappointed.
Not sure about the rest of people who are trapped in the train and drained of air.
This guy should be honour, I respect him! He is the man!

Isn't there a sign that says :
Break glass in case of emergency.
So after this glass incident, smrt has to put up another sign that goes: Don't break glass in case of emergency?

If I really ask him, he will detail a 1000 page contingency route plan to bring you from point A to point B in any part of Singapore in the least amount of time and least amount of fares.
