Roads: Saturday ERP At Orchard Road Area

  Starting from 8 October 2005, there will be Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charging for motorists travelling to the Orchard Road area from 12.00 noon to 8.00pm on Saturdays.
  
  Motorists who drive into the Orchard Road area will have to pay an ERP charge of $0.50 during the operating hours.
  
  Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes, other than Orchard Road, to get to their destinations that is to travel outside the Orchard Road area, ERP will be charged at the Handy Road gantry to promote motorists not to travel in the Orchard road area.
  
  Motorists are also encouraged to take public transport as the bus lane along Orchard Road, from Paterson Road to Dhoby Ghaut, will be in operation from 7.30am to 8.00pm to prevent the delayed of buses by the traffic congestions.

  I have observed the situation of Orchard Rd on Saturday. Indeed, the situation has improved with almost no traffic jam. But buses, on the other hand, was more crowded but MRT was worse.

  They should charge $10 on the ERP, that way, confirm no one will drive in and Orchard Road will be peaceful and nice and u can even have picnic in the middle of the road....

  Singapore should try to implement different ways to prevent traffic congestions rather than ERP. If people had to travel withim the Orchard area, why not? They will just need to pay. Building of alternaltives roads are another way, but more roads means more cars!! Haha.

  Actually, Singaporeans mentaility is that have ERP, they use alternate roads
