New Lornie viaduct opens to traffic from Sunday
Motorists travelling along Lornie, Braddell and Thomson roads in
Central Singapore will have a smoother journey when the new Lornie
viaduct opens to traffic from Sunday at 9am.
The new roads are part of an ongoing development of the Outer Road
Ring system. This is a network of major roads that literally form a
ring along the outer areas of the city.
Extensively linked to expressways and other arterial roads, the
system provides motorists with routes to travel between the eastern and
western parts of Singapore without the need to go through the city,
thereby reducing congestion in the city centre.
One viaduct connects Braddell Road to the widened south-bound carriageway of the MacRitchie viaduct.
The other connects Lornie Road to Braddell Road.
Senior Minister of State for Transport Lim Hwee Hua and some 500
community leaders took a tour of the newly completed viaduct on
Saturday.
Ms Lim said: "This much-awaited direct connection between Lornie
and Braddell roads will allow motorists to bypass two traffic
junctions, thereby reducing travel time by an estimated four minutes.
It also means improved traffic flow between Braddell and Thomson
roads."
