Dear all,
Come 26 to 28 September 2008, Singapore will host the world's first night race in Formula One history - the inaugural 2008 Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. Over 100,000 race spectators are expected to converge at this historic race, set in the heart of Singapore's city centre.
To facilitate the safe setting up and dismantling of the temporary race infrastructure, there will be a series of gradual road closures and r! e-openings from 20 September to 2 October 2008.
To help you navigate the roads in the City Hall and Marina Bay area during this period, please refer to the maps for details on the vehicular and pedestrian access information (See attached map).
Take note that only police, emergency and other authorised vehicles with valid access passes will have access to the affected areas duri! ng this period. Depending on the prevailing circumstances, there may b e changes to the timings and other ad hoc traffic arrangements.
The public is strongly encouraged to take public transport, especially the MRT.

By Foot:
The underpass linking City Hall MRT to Suntec City Mall via the newly opened underpass will be accessible to the public.
Q: Will there be enough parking lots for me to park?
A: There will be a total of 1,700 parking lots available for non-season pass holders from 7am to 5pm, and 3,200 lots available for all motorists after 5pm on weekdays and throughout the whole day on weekends.
Q: Where can I exit?
A: Cars then can use Carpark B and E to exit into Temasek Boulevard and Nicholl Highway respectively.
Q: Do I need a pass to get in here?
A: From 23 Sept to 28 Sept, passes are required to be displayed by season pass holders on race dates to enter into Carpark C via Rochor Road and Carpark D and G via Nicoll Highway as pass holders will be given priority to enter Suntec City should the carpark be full. Other cars entering Suntec City via Nicoll Highway to Carpark E do not need a pass to get in.
Q: Will there be screening?
A: There will be a few checkpoints around the area to direct traffic and ease the flow of traffic on the emergency lanes for special VIPS and emergency purposes.
Q: Will there be a jam?
A: Traffic is expected to be congested along Nicholl Highway. It is thus highly encouraged to take the public transport to Suntec City Mall.
Q: Can I take the bicycle to Suntec City?
A: Bicycles are allowed to enter to Suntec City via Nicoll Highway. Those that come from Rochor Road will need a special pass.
Q: How can my dispatch(es) come in?
A: There is a list of approved dispatch companies who will be given special passes to enter into Suntec City.

To reiterate, the authority and Suntec City management strongly encourages all not to drive during this period. All is encouraged to take public transport especially the MRT.

SINGAPORE: Motorists can expect some traffic disruptions from Tuesday as Phase One of road closures kicks in for the Formula One night race in Singapore.
The Land Transport Authority says this is to facilitate the setting up race infrastructure.
Roads around the world’s first night race circuit in Marina Bay were closed off just past midnight on Tuesday in this phase which will last till Thursday night.
Roads that will be closed are Republic Boulevard (except between Republic Avenue and Raffles Boulevard), Raffles Boulevard, Raffles Avenue and Raffles Link.
Bras Basah Road will be closed between North Bridge Road and Beach Road, Stamford Road up to the junction of St Andrew’s Road, Beach Road between Bras Basah Road and Stamford Road.
Esplanade Bridge, Connaught Drive, St Andrew’s Road, Fullerton Place Parliament Place, Colombo Court, Coleman Street, Nicoll Highway from Middle Road to Raffles Boulevard.
The next phase of road closures will operate from Friday to Sunday.
But vehicles with pre—assigned passes will be allowed to enter Raffles Boulevard, Temasek Avenue, St Andrew’s Road, Connaught Drive and Parliament Place.
To cater to morning peak hour traffic, three of the four lanes of a stretch of Nicoll Highway towards Shenton Way will be open between 5am and 9am over the three days.
The stretch of road from Republic Avenue to Raffles Avenue will also be reopened between 5am and 9am.
Vehicles using this stretch of road should not exceed 4.3 metres in height.
Service delivery vehicles with special labels will be allowed to access certain designated roads from midnight to 5am. — CNA/de
