Temporary viaduct in CBD to open to traffic on Sunday
SINGAPORE: Singapore's temporary viaduct in the Central Business District (CBD) area will soon be open to traffic. The temporary vehicular viaduct along Cross Street will be opened in phases, starting from December 28 at 1pm.
Motorists will be able to access the two-lane temporary viaduct via the up-ramp at Central Boulevard to China Street.
The viaduct was constructed to ensure lane-for-lane replacement during the Downtown Line 1 (DTL1) construction where works will be carried out along Cross Street.
The other two up-ramps from Raffles Quay and Robinson Road will be opened in two subsequent phases in early 2009. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will announce details later.
Besides being a replacement route, the viaduct enables motorists
travelling to New Bridge Road to by-pass four busy junctions along
Cross Street at Telok Ayer Street, Cecil Street, Robinson Road and
Raffles Quay, said the LTA.
The viaduct will be in use till 2012 when the construction of the Cross Street Station is slated to be completed.
For safety reasons, motorists using the Cross Street viaduct must observe the speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour, maximum vehicle weight of 2.5 tonnes and a height limit of 3.2 metres from the Central Boulevard up-ramp. - CNA/vm
