Heavy traffic at land checkpoints during Chinese New Year expected
SINGAPORE: About 430,000 travellers are expected to use Singapore's two land checkpoints at Woodlands and Tuas daily from Feb 4 to Feb 14, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said in a news release on Tuesday (Jan 26).
During this period, travellers can expect heavy traffic leaving Singapore from Feb 4 to Feb 7, and especially heavy traffic toward Singapore from Feb 9 to Feb 14, it said.
Travellers leaving Singapore by Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint will be able to check the traffic situation from LTA’s Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) installed along the AYE and BKE respectively, ICA added.
“TRAVELLERS HAVE A PART TO PLAY”
ICA said traffic build-up was inevitable during this period as preventing potential threats to Singapore remained the authority’s top priority, and security checks would continue.
It recommended that travellers adjust their travel plans, if possible, to avoid a surge in travellers and vehicles seeking clearance at the checkpoints.
To help maintain smooth traffic, travellers could carpool where possible, maintain lane discipline, use the Immigration Automated Clearance System lanes at bus halls for immigration clearance if they were eligible, ensure that their passports were their own and were valid, and avoid bringing unlawful or prohibited goods into or out of Singapore, it added.
