BULGOGI
Bulgogi is one of KoreaÂ’s most well known grilled dishes that is usually recommended to first timers to Korean cuisine. Traditionally eaten served wrapped in moo shu pancakes, itÂ’s not uncommon to see bulgogi served with tortillas and lettuce leaves. Or with rice. One way of eating bulgogi is to wrap a piece of cooked beef in lettuce with rice and accompanying garnishes. Bean paste or doenjang can also be added if you prefer more flavour! -
I heard got one korean cuisine that's like army rations. The us army stationed in south korea invented the cuisine. I dunno what it's called. but they put sausages , beef, instant noodles(my fav), kimchi in the spicy soup. Basically korean and us culture combined.

NAENG MYUN
Naeng Myun is buckwheat noodles in cold soup, a dish that's great for hot weathers. Some folks believe good naeng myun should taste savoury, the chewy nature of the noodles and tanginess of the beef broth combining to contribute to its thirst quenching, refreshing taste. Pyongyang Naeng Myun and Bibim Naeng Myun are other versions of Naeng Myun. -
Don't know if it was the US Army who invented it but perhaps you're referring to Budae Chigae? It's Army Base Stew that evolved during the Korean war. Apparently there was so little for the people to eat they had to rely on left-overs from the US Army restaurants, distributed in the streets like pig feed - spam, hotdogs, etc. Whatever they could get their hands on were just mixed together and boiled in a potful of water.Originally posted by The man who was death:I heard got one korean cuisine that's like army rations. The version offered in restaurants now use
ramyeon noodles , meat, sausages, Korean rice cakes, hot chilli paste ... apparently Spam's necessary if you want the authentic taste!

for those who love korean cuisine.. i personally likes the little shop in Chinatown... its managed by a korean family and the lady boss's name is call Judy. Its near the CTC branch, not the main branch in Chinatown Point though. Go try!

GUJEOLPAN
Gujeolpan, known to many as cuisine of Korean royalty during the Chosun era, is a dish thatÂ’s named after the container itÂ’s served in. Gu means nine, a lucky number to the Koreans, and jeolpan refers to the divided sections of the container. Unlike most Korean food thatÂ’s served in ceramic or brass containers, the gujeolpan is usually made of wood, with more elaborate versions inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The eight surrounding compartments of the gujeolpan are filled with a ingredients like abalone, vegetables, mushroom, beef, cucumber, etc - the selection varies depending on the occasion. The centre compartment is reserved for the thin pancakes.
Gujeolpan is a great dish to serve as an appetiser, even an accompaniment for alcoholic beverages when entertaining guests. Usually geon Gujeolpan is the version served for accompanying drinks, with the compartments filled with ‘dry’ ingredients like nuts, beef jerky, dried prawns, etc.
How this dish is eaten Â… place small amounts of three to four different ingredients on a pancake, sprinkle with soy sauce or mustard, roll the pancake around the ingredients. -
AGUJJIM / Hot & Spicy Steamed Fish
Agujjim is one of the most popular jjim dishes in Korea. Believed to have been created in Masan, a small city in the southern part of Korea (which is famous for this dish), it’s supposed to be very good for preventing the effects of aging and great brain food too. The Agu fish is steamed with soybean paste and hot pepper powder, with parsley and bean sprouts adding to its special taste. Eaten with rice, Agujjim goes down very well with liquors – a glass of Soju highly recommended! -

SUJUNGGWA
Sujunggwa or persimmon punch is a popular traditional Korean desert that contains lots of Vitamin C. The punch is made with dried persimmon, ginger, pine nuts and cinnamon.

Seriously, I don't know about the kimchi thing coz the recipes I have don't even list that ingredient as an option. But I do remember reading an article some years back about South Koreans eating dog and cat meat - dog meat is apparently expensive there. I believe people in China eat dog and cat meat as well? It's just one of those things - different countries, different cultures, cuisines and preferences. Some nations are huge on eating beef and, for instance, the people of India who consider cows sacred animals are appalled by the way cows are treated in the USA!
