Largest American Agency Calls Lee Byung-heon “Asian James Dean”
Hallyu star Lee Byung-heon is set to make inroads into Hollywood. Recently, the largest U.S. talent agency, CAA, has praised the actor for his role in the movie “A Bittersweet Life,” calling him “the Asian James Dean."
Hwang Jung-wook, CEO of the local agency, Web, said in an interview on June 15 that Lee, who is managed by Player Entertainment, will advance into the Hollywood market in full gear after one year of preparatory positioning. “Unlike other Asian actors, he will not play sinister or comic roles in Hollywood, but will establish his presence there in a completely different way," said Hwang.
Hwang said the actor had already laid a solid foundation for advancing into Hollywood back in May at Cannes when he met with CAA representatives. Next week, some 400 CAA agents will watch “A Bittersweet Life,” said Hwang.
CAA is the largest Hollywood agency, managing high-caliber stars such as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman, as well as famous movie directors like Stephen Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer.
According to Hwang, a CAA agent named Jenny Rollings was impressed by “A Bittersweet Life” when she visited Cannes, France during the latest film festival. At a conference that was held the following day which was attended by Lee and Web representatives, Rollings said Lee had enough potential to make a successful debut in Hollywood, and called him “the Asian James Dean."

Pai seh, actually don't know him leh. I think I've admitted not watching Korean dramas (can't cope with TVB/ATV and others ley) but he sure look gorgeous. Someone nice to have beside, I'll say.

A friend of mine watched bits of Stairway To Heaven, saw Kwon Sang-woo next to Choi Ji-woo and called him "shorty"! I kept trying to explain to him that the actress is lanky and tall but it just didn't sink in. So now, he can't remember Korean names to save his life, he refers to poor KSW as "the short guy"!!

It was alittle strange seeing LBY in a role like that though! Did you? Some net users claim his scenes with Choi Ji-woo was one of the reasons for his break-up with Song Hye-kyo. I don't know how much truth there is to it though, coz I thought it was more an issue of their views towards marriage.

LEE BYUNG-HEON DEBUTS AS JEWELRY DESIGNER IN JAPAN
At a press conference held in Tokyo on Sept. 29, hallyu star Lee Byung-heon announced his plans to debut as a jewelry designer for the Japanese jewelry brand “Samantha Tiara.”
The Japanese sports daily Sports Nippon reported on Sept. 30 that Lee--the first male promotion model/designer of the brand--will design necklaces for both men and women featuring a cross and his lucky number “7.”
At the press conference, Lee said it was not easy to create products that can appeal to many customers.
"LeeÂ’s products designed for women will be released on the market on Oct. 3, while the release date and price of the male products are yet to be announced. The price of a female necklace packaged with a card bearing a message from Lee and his photo is 100,000 yen (about one million won). All buyers will be invited to a Christmas event that will be organized by the brand in December and will feature the actor," wrote Sports Nippon.

Lee Byung-heon figure doll to be released to market in Japan
Actor Lee Byung-heon will soon become the first hallyu star to have his figure doll produced in Japan. The Japanese sports daily Sankei Sports wrote on Sept. 16 that figure dolls featuring Lee’s character in the movie “Bungee Jumping of Their Own” will be released to market on Sept. 20.
A figure doll is an almost perfect mini-replica of movie, cartoon and game characters.
The 19-centimeter tall Lee Byung-heon figure doll features LeeÂ’s character from the movieÂ’s best scenes and even has the smallest details perfectly replicated. "'Bungee Jumping of Their Own' drew the spotlight in Japan when it opened [there] last spring, and is LeeÂ’s favorite work so far. To LeeÂ’s fans, this figure doll is likely to become their most treasured possession," wrote the daily.
Sankei Sports also added that despite the growing popularity of many other hallyu stars in Japan, such as Bae Yong-jun, Won Bin and Jang Dong-geon, Lee was the first to have a figure doll produced.
