[b]SINGAPORE'S WORLD CUP REFEREE SHAMSUL MAIDIN BACK HOME FROM GERMANY 2006
SINGAPORE: Singapore's World Cup referee has returned home.
Shamsul Maiden is the first Singaporean to referee 3 World Cup matches.
Shamsul spent 12 and a half hours on a Singapore Airlines flight from Frankfurt in Germany, and the 40-year old Executive of the Referee's Department at the Football Association of Singapore has been away from his family for more than a month.
"Well I hope with the two good performances by our two Asian referees, hopefully that will give more spots for us next time at the future World Cup at 2010," said Shamsul.
Shamsul was greeted here at Changi Airport by members of the media and his family.
He said he was now going to rest after his grueling schedule in Germany, and although he understands why FIFA didn't use him after the Group Stages, he still feels disappointed.
Singapore's World Cup referee said he did feel the pressure to perform at the highest level but the opportunity to work with top referees is one experience he will never forget.
