Chelsea's in-form striker Didier Drogba feels Michael Essien has been the key performer for The Blues this season.
Frank Lampard and John Terry have been the mainstays of Jose Mourinho's side in the previous two seasons, but Essien is the only player to have taken part in every game this term.
A host of big names have performed well for Chelsea this season, including Drogba who has weighed in with 17 goals, but the Ivorian believes Ghana international midfielder Essien has been the shining light.
"He (Essien) has played every minute this season and is one of the best midfielders in the world," declared Drogba.
"He is unique. He can play right-back, central midfield and centre-back. Chelsea supporters now know why the club bought him."
Chelsea have been without their captain Terry for the last two games and he is again doubtful for Saturday's trip to Wigan with a back injury.
Full-back Geremi admits it is a blow to be without such an influential player at what is a busy stage of the season, but he has revealed Terry still had time to hand out a seasonal gift to his team-mates.
"It is a big blow that he is injured at the moment," said Geremi. "We know he is first-choice. But we have to do without him at the moment.
"He is always in the dressing room, even when he is not playing.
"We need him because he is a character and to motivate the players.
"We received a book full of great moments from last season. It was a great present.
"He gave a book to each one of us. He was the only one to think about giving presents. It is something we will keep for ever."
John Terry --> My favourite defender, captain and player forever.
