Chelsea boss Mourinho: I won't pay over odds for new signings tribalfooball.com - December 30, 2006
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists they won't spend for the sake of it during the January market. After admitting his defence was in crisis after yesterday's 2-2 draw with Fulham, Mourinho said: "If the club asks for my opinion, I would say 'yes' to new players but at the same time, when I see the eyes of some clubs and they want incredible money for very ordinary players, I would say 'no'.
"A normal player is a normal player. You cannot pay a fortune, so if it is like that, we go with the players we have.
"It is difficult but I hope that John Terry and Petr Cech are back soon. I don't need millions next month, I need the best goalkeeper and the best central defender in the world back."

Mourinho: Chelsea won't be held to ransom in market tribalfooball.com - January 02, 2007
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists they won't pay over the odds for young Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
City's England star Richards, 18, is an £18million target for the Londoners.
But Mourinho said: "If I know an Aston Martin is £250,000 and they say £1million then I go to another shop.
"I would like to go to market but I told my top people that in my opinion it's time for people to look at us as a normal club.
"They want my players on loan or in the sales and the answer is no. When other people want to sell ordinary players for the price of Maradona the answer is no.
"We are not crazy. If we want a player then it must be for the correct price."
Mourinho was also referring to the possible sale of Shaun Wright-Phillips. City want their old boy back but are equally determined to hang on to Richards.
